Lets do it this way, on my 04 GTP Comp G before I started using my DRs I would pull 2.1-2.25 60's and my times were 13.5s-13.7s trapping 102-103s. When I started using my DRs (actually on made 3 passes before I killed the input shaft on the tranny) I was pulling 1.86-1.95 60's and my times were 13.1s-13.3s still trapping 102's-103's. These were done a day apart with the same temps/elevation/humidity.
So yes lower 60's equal lower trap times (right about .1 lower 60' = .2 lower ET time). Trap speeds are all HP and weight.

Were you under warranty when the input shaft snapped? If so did you get it covered? Do you think the 06-07 tranny is any stronger than what was in your 04?

No I was out of warranty (by time not miles), but I don't think you would ever get Pontiac to cover a broken Input shaft under warranty if you killed it at the track while running DR's or slicks. The GXP tranny's are stronger then the regular 4T65E-HDs, but IIRC none of the parts that usually break on the tranny's were the parts made stronger.

The better the 60, the better the ET. The more HP, the higher MPH. ET is a function of traction; the mph is a function of HP. I did a bit of suspension work to get my GN to 60' in the 1.4s.

Default With a quicker short time YOU MAY EVEN GO SLOWER!!!

You may even lose a mph or 2!

Hey 06 SS... You're my neighbor. I'm in Crystal Lake. How do you like driving the killer (Randall) road?
Maybe we could set up an impromptu lil drag. I gotta crappy ol '00 Z-28.
J/K!!!
God I hate the car but I love the drivetrain... I looked at the IMP SS but it's too cheezy inside and out for my tastes so I bought ANOTHER (my 3rd LS1 m6) crappy Camaro. I own them until I get sick of the ergos. then off they go.

Nacho you need a little track time under your belt before you start talkin' trash.

They don't need to know about the DR's and going to the track!

Not overly much.

When I am off the road (just got into Indy last night), I can head to the office early (5am) and traffic is just annoying, on the way home about 12 hours later it is crippling. Have to wait 2-3 light cycles at Algonquin and another 2 at that mall road/light just North of there. Then another 2 at Miller when I go left.

Sure, we can race. Let's do it on the first snowy day...

Default Maybe even just early in the morning now that it's gettin' colder out...

And you'll get me for sure.

When I was in High School (1983) we used to Drag race regularly on Miller at the other end. We also used Ackman. Just like in the movies cars would be lined up on both sides as the cars racing would go down the middle. God were we stupid.

I live in CL and work in Elgin... If I go Randall it's about 5:45 am and it's just starting to jam up. I just close my eyes, floor it and turn into traffic.
Reason I'm even here is I'm a FWD fan (weather) and check in from time to time to see what kinda mph guys are goin' 1/4 mi. trap speed. My old '98 Oldsmobile LSS (factory s/c 3.8) was trapping 106 on a good night. When these cars are there I'm interestd in the path taken to get there ($$$).

We also have a family member with a 96 IMP SS that went 11.53 @123 4600lbs w/driver. That was a vortech/ nitrous LT1. Working out the BS Fast fuel injection for the new nitrous only motor. Hoping for high 120mph.
The Vortech hinted something was up before. Now EVERYTHING is hidden. Intake is plumbed through the valley and solenoids are in the fender behind the battery.
Fully cycled is a 500hp hit.

I like the old ones too.

when home, I head out to Aurora for work, They sorta warehouse me there between jobs, mostly clock watching. I don't hardly bother with Randall anymore (drive the extra 3 miles out West and back and go with 47). My brother lived out in CL about 6-7 years ago, was busy back then too. My lowly Caprice is a total sleeper, ex-cop car, door dings, etc. Looking for a motor this Winter (really leaning towards a high winding 355), should go nicely with my 2800 Edge 9" converter, 3.73 gears, 400lb Eaton Posi, heavily built tranny, etc.

Dude - Camaros ain't so bad, they kicked *** in their day (the newest is 6 model years old now). They were built for one purpose - to race, not driver comfort. Driver ergonomics are ideal for racing - (headroom for me is lacking w/ a helmet, though). Still take mine out when I need to make a fun run.

You want better driver ergos and a V8? Look at the MCSS. You give up a few 10th's, but the ride is so much better, you sit upright, all sorts of steering wheel controls. All that and you can hold with a Mustang 24/7/365.

My old Olds LSS would do pretty well in the morning commute (S/C 3800,pulley,
thrasher rockers, valvesprings and converter.) but I CRINGED any time the car got any wheel hop or stuck on blast-off. I can just imagine the stress of the v-8 torque combined with the weight of the car on the trans and shafts. As long as the tires spin it must be OK.

If I were gonna drop 30 large it would be on a used SRT-8 ANYTHING. It is not in the same league as the front drivers.

Thanks for the suggs. but I'll stick with my 24mpg daily commute 12.70@112et. $8800 RWD LS1 T56 Camaro
for now.

Oh yeah... The only reason this one has stuck around as long as it has (4 mos.) is because I bought a set of Black cloth Firebird Formula seats and now MY BACK doesn't hurt! (I'm old)

Good luck finding an srt-8 anything new, maybe used. I have a freind with an srt-8 jeep, works at the dealership and payed well over 40 grand. I bought my awd 07 Trailblazer SS for 27,400. I can do a lot of mods for my tbss to make up the price, and you can only go so far with a jeep, there are no real good tune/tuners available for the srt-8's. I know a guy with an awd tbss who runs high 12's with a converter (3600 stall), tune and intake. The problem with the tbss and is the truck towing converter. The jeep already comes with a loose converter, hence the little to no towing capacity. Now if money was not a factor and I would consider buying an srt-8 jeep, but would have to have an all around utility vehicle along with my sport utility jeep.

Tell you what, last night got to go for a ride in my buddy's '06 6-spd Goat and I am totally hooked on the LS2 right now. Going to check out the finances and he might part with it next Spring. It was an eye-opening experience, let me tell you. That is where I would go for my $25k+ toy car.

I would recomend finding a GTO at a dealership that is GM certified (the car GM certified that is), that way you get the GM 100,000 mile powertrain warranty. I tossed around the GTO, but I can't really afford to have a dedicated toy like that. At least I have an ls2. I would rec driving a tbss, but without a tune they are a bit slow, it's amazing how much a tune wakes these things up. But that may be the case for the GTO also.

Fast car!

Know what you mean about the seats ... makes my Monte feel like my living room. There is also an "odd" vehicle departure angle, kinda like a roll out and try to keep your balance feeling.

I get that same feeling getting into my Z28SS, but after an hour or so, I take it back home and get the MCSS.

Wouldn't it be hard to tow with a SRT Jeep because of the exhuast being in the center?
