Default Getting a new transmission.

Well the dealer just called me and said i need a new one. They found a bunch of metal crap in the pan. Theyre saying 5 days till the new one arrives which sucks. Hopefully all goes well and they actually know what they're doing. Anyways does anyone know if the trannys have been updated so this problem doesnt re-occur? The car only had 15k on it and to need a new tranny thats pretty bad. The guy that owned it before me was 62 so i doubt he beat the bag out of it and i only put 1000 fairly easy miles on it.

No, there are no updated parts in the replacement tranny...so you're getting whatever everyone else has.

I'm nearing 30k, so i should probably have the dealer swap out the fluid when she goes back in for the rack. Anyone know what the typical tranny service runs at the dealer?

cherrygxp, did you notice anything acting abnormal with your transmission before you took it in? My car is approaching 15k and hopefully all is well with my tranny, hasn't acted up lately.

I'd like to know this too because for me, down by my feet and the shifter area are getting very hot...and my tranny gives of a distinct funky smell. I don't think those are good signs.

the symptoms i was getting were shuddering in 4th gear. then it went to feeling it in 3rd. Ive only had the car for 1k miles and its got a total of 15k. In my opinion thats shitty. But the new tranny comes with a 3 year 100k mile warranty so im not tooo worried about it cuz by then ill have a G8 or CTS-V. Its still pathetic that not only will a tranny give at 15k but they havent upgraded it too prevent this

wife drove mine for a while now at 19K it feels like the rotors are a little out of shape.GM front drives are notorious for the rotors not staying straight,If you do your own work,Buy some high quality rotors,Looking into some crossdrilled or similar for mine.Cheap replacements will warp like wet plywood in a hurry! As far as a fluid change,You could do it at home cheap! These units come with a reusable pan gasket so all you need is a filter and some DEXRON 5 I believe. If you really want to help your trans life look into some AMSOIL synthetic trans fluid,It really makes a difference.A flush generally means they don't replace the filter so be cautious! You wouldn't change your oil without changing the filter would you?

I've heard about the TSB about finding metal in the pan, I'll have to keep that in mind. For now, everything seems fine, but I do agree that needing a new trans at 15k miles is pretty shitty. I don't think GM originally intended for these transmissions to go into a V8 car.

Yeah, i've had the rotors cut twice in less than 13k...i'm at 29k now, so it's time. I found a set of D/S rotors for $200 at Rotorpros...may consider those in the spring.

For the fluid change, it's damn cold out and i don't really feel like laying out to do the fluid change. Pretty sure the imp uses Dexron VI, not sure what the dealer charges per qt. or how much i need, but the Amsoil is $10/bottle.

The only other reason i'm considering the dealer is so that they can see what's in the pan. I can now trust my (new) dealer so if there's a problem, i don't want it to be me telling them after the fact.

im thinkin a transmission cooler will be a big help since i think they already run too hot. Ive got a GMC 2500HD and the trans temp never reaches more than 150 max

well just got the car back. I was supposed to get it back yesterday but when they road tested it the abs light came on and they had to replace the ebcm(electronic brake control module). Anyways everything seems good so far so well wait and see. Anyone have any input on how long i should break in the new tranny?
