I guess I haven't felt the same looseness of the TC to which you guys are referring. However, I have felt the lag in acceleration based upon pedal response. I attribute that to the LS4's fly by wire TB vs. the direct cable attached TB in older cars. I watch the tach in the 08 Imp and the car always rolls out at below 2K. I'm gonna brake torque it this weekend to see how high it'll rev before the tires brake loose.

Power breaking it makes it to somewhere up in the 3-4k range....but I have after market rotors and pads.

The stock LS4 converter i think is pretty good, its not TOO loose but its not so tight that its not fun to drive(like my ******* 4.3 S10 thats like 1500 stall). I can fully brake stall mine to about 3-3200 and i feel it has a decent shift extension, only droping about 1500 rpms or so after the shift (6400 rpm 1st gear shift point here). Money would be better spent on 3.69 gears and chain and some other hard parts while you got the trans out and apart.

Tom,

I remember when you first came in to look at the MCSS by us, and we were laughing on the test drive how loose the converter was.

Just tested this in the driveway. This is a new 08 Impala SS. It is definitely pushing hard on the drive line at around 2,000 RPM, by 2,400 it's starting to overpower the brakes and creep forward. The wheels start spinning at around 2,600 to 2,800. I tried this both ways, using the emergency brake as well as the disks.

Do the IMP's and MC's have the same cam? Did the Imp got a torque cam while the MC got a HP cam, similar to what GM did with the Imp version of the LT1 back in the 90's?

Ah, doesn't matter I guess. Perhaps the Imp has more power because it's a bigger car. Size does matter!
