how fast?

I wasn't aware the GXP had any kind of speed limiter. When mine hits 140, the speedo stops climbing but the tach keeps going, so if there is any type of limiter, I haven't gotten there yet.

I was always under the impression the Imps were capable of 153 but they put a limiter on them then at 140. However obviously people have been over 140 so I guess that's not the case. I don't really drive that fast, highest I've had mine up to was 125. I'm usually paranoid of getting pulled over haha. Even with the radar detector I'd rather not chance it. Plus I'm rarely on uncrowded highways.

The VR says they are rated over 130 MPH, the W in the service description means up to 168 MPH. So, GM picked whatever limit based on something else. At a guess, the critical speed of the driveshaft/axles is the deciding factor.

ok, but the W indicates that the stock SS tires are good for sustained speeds up to 168 MPH and a Z rated tire only indicates it is good for over 149 MPH, but not how far over. The service description shows the true limit.

I've hit 141'ish once, but i had to slow down. Don't believe i hit a cutoff or anything, but let's just say i wasn't 100% "with it" at that moment. I hit 135 two other times in Canada coming back from a Yankee's game.
The car feels like it's floating at that speed, so i haven't done it ever again...makes no sense AT ALL and i've got no need to try it anymore...so it's outta my system.
However, i do hit 100-110 every once in a while...much more manageable and easily obtained.

LOL that quite a hike for me but I know what you are saying! I used to do my top speed runs out on Ocean Parkway but there is usually a bad breeze that blows off the water making things hard on the car to get to top speed but I've only seen a cop there at night once.LOL all I need is to get radioed in by a super trooper and they'll call out the 'Maros and then I'm really toast! I like to speed in PA though. There are times I get on 80 and go from end to end and not see one cop. I ran my old '93 GP to 145 and still going out there over by Lock Haven....Yeah I had a custom engine in that and not the engine some of you might be thinking. I had to stop that was just too damn fast....I rember I ran my old Camaro that fast in Montana when they ad no daytime limit... that wasn't as scary but I thought the windows were gonig to blow right the hell out LOL!

Thought you guys might enjoy some favorites I have saved from youtube on this very topic:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OTru6WKTGLA He almost hits 140mph at 4200rpm...still room to climb.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lpcCo...eature=related However oddly if you watch this video he is at a higher RPM at slightly lower speeds at 135mph.
Guy running from the cops in a Imp SS, he is blowing away the troopers and the news helicopter is having trouble keeping up...very awesome vid . At 1:50 the chopper pulls extra power to reach 140mph and the guy is still pulling on him. At 3:50 they talk about the power of the car. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jlUrhnBzkrE
Here is the aftermath of the above chase vid http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h0SUchIsttQ

That impala is rolling, I love the fact that he is evading the pigs. In phoenix (a sweet city) at the street races, the bikes were always the first out to roll down the highway and you would see the choppers try and hang with them. Then the bike would hit top gear and is was all a joke from there. What a great vid though the last one. We get some props from the cops lol.
