cams will work!!
so my buddy thats in my car club was doin some research for me and just informed me that any of the ls type cams such as the ls1 or ls6 will work with our motors but total lift seems to be limited to .590 with the DOD, so if we disable the DOD then we would be able to do even more!

Whats wrong with the stock cam? I would recommend headers and exhaust first with some 3.69 gears. Also I would recommend having the 2nd to 3rd shift extended to 5900-6100 rpm. First maximize the engines full potential and then change the cam.

so does that mean a thunder racing tr220 or 224 would work with the DOD? (.551 lift) This was THE cam for the 5.3 trucks, granted, our heads flow more and we have more compression, but it was easy to pick up 40 at the wheels over the stock 5.3 truck cam. If that's the case, then we just need headers (and probably a little more in the way of aftercat exhaust flow.)

What is stock gear and where do you find replacements?

um nothin. it has to do with engine codes being popped. go unplug your mas air, start it, wait for the code. then shut it off and try and use the remote start. it won't start because of said code.

DoD has no effect on the remote start, but if there are any CEL codes thrown (like a false misfire with a big cam), it will disable the remote start function. He was advocating ditching the DoD system so that you could go with a larger cam (over 0.590 lift). My personal belief is that a really large cam would push the torque curve too far to the right and make the problematic 2nd gear pulls even worse. If a big cam was installed, I think putting a much lower final gear ratio would be required or you are going to end up with a terrible street car. Now, if you just tighten up the LSA and don't go much more than 10-15* longer duration, the mid-range torque should pull very nicely even in that crummy 2nd gear range.
