Default How are your rockers & lower doors doing?

I may have mentioned this issue before, but never posted a thread about it. My doors and rockers are beat to **** after 34k. Guessing it's just from road debris over this time. Anyone else have this issue?

It's BAAAAAD! I mean, I can wash and detail the car, including clay, polish, and wax, and they're still there. It just looks like I missed washing the bottom of the doors and rockers. I had the car professionally done last fall and the guy had never seen such bad road rash in 50+ years in the business.

I'll get a few pics later on today or tomorrow AM, but in the mean time, anyone else have anything like this?

I have a few chips on my rockers, but not very noticeable because its white, and its still pretty new ( 18k miles). I've had good luck wetsanding and buffing rockers on previous cars to get rid of that road rash and bring back some clarity to the paint.

not a mark on mine after 35K, however I think it is because the windshield attracts all the stone chips, thus saving the body. My 238K mile Caprice got less chips in it in 12 years than this one gets in a week...

Dunno why, but there have to be 25 or more tiny chips out of the glass. Got an '08 Buick w-loaner the other month with at least 10. Either bad glass, bad design, or both.

No problems here except your regular knicks and surface scratches, but my car never sees snow or salt so my input probably doesn't mean much. Are you regreting your decision to get a black car now? Must be hard to keep clean especially up there in the winter months.

Yeah, keeping it clean here sucks. It will be on my list for my pre-warranty-expiration visit to the dealer...so we'll see if they can do anything (doubtful...they'll just say I didn't protect it enough, although I've clayed & waxed it numerous times.

MCSS's don't count because of our rockers, but my nose took a ton of abuse this winter.

I'm thinking it's just road crud from nasty winters - sand / salt. Just what we have to deal with. They have to have street sweepers clean out all of the gutters here after winter - usually takes at least all of April, so we don't pull our good cars out until May.

I got a few nose chips and side skirt scratches but thats about it. 20 000 miles.
Driven through the winter in PA. We didn't get much snow. I think I got the nose scratches up in Camel back during a ski trip.

WOW! Guess I just managed to get a Friday or Monday paint job, or the last batch of something. Would make sense, considering all the other problems I've had with the car.

With 36K miles my rockers are totally sandblasted too. I think it's the road salt they use here combined with the aerodynamics of the car. I've never seen it so bad on any other car I've owned. I knew I should have gotten a silver car instead of the laser blue. The dark color shows all the paint flaws so much more.

One thing I did catch just in time before my warranty ran out was that the lower front grille chrome was pitting. Still waiting for the part but the service writer said it was covered by the warranty. Unfortunatley the new one will probably share the same fate.

FINALLY! I am not alone!

Yeah, my upper grill is on the "pre-warranty-expiration" checklist. The chrome is bubbling right off but not peeling yet.

I just got done scrubbing off a pound of dead flies or gnats or whatever they are last week. I don't know where they came from. Left in the morning my car was clean, got home that afternoon and from the bottom of the front bumper up to the top of my windshield was a splatterfest.
