No different bolt pattern but they make an adapter, I’ll be dammed if I can find it right now.

how about a TR220... remember that this is a 5.3 liter, not a 5.7 or 6.0...

You will have to disable the DOD for the cam to work, along with I believe removing some parts from the engine.

The block is not shorter. The crank has a shorter snout and flexplate mount, and the accessories, especially the water pump, are arranged in a more compact way. Overall the "engine" is shorter.

Bore spacing, therefore main journal and cam journal spacing is the same as the other GEN 3 and Gen 4 blocks. A LS6 cam will fit.

sounds good .. would disabling the DOD make that big of a difference in fuel mileage? most v8 camaros get about the same mileage as we do and they run on 8 cylinders all the time.

Fuel economy on the highway will drop about 10% (if you drive 80 and up, chances are DOD is rarely active due to wind resistance, so you may not notice much change). Losing DOD in the city will barely be noticeable since DOD is not active at low speed, when idling or accelerating.

If I ever do a cam in a LS4 (maybe on the next Fiero), I'd probably dust all the DOD hardware and put in a LS1 valley cover, just to make an intake swap less of a pain.

Damn this is what, maybe the 1000th post about cam swaps. I wonder if anyone is actually ever gonna tackle this project! I bet when people start to realize the amount of labor involved they change their mind. I hope someone does it though, I would love to see the results. Not something I plan on doing to my car though. Too much work for too little gain. Plus my tranny and tires already can't handle the power of my stock LS4.
