Detailed the engine bay...and added a li'l somethin' extra! (56k go away! REALLY!)
One day last week I spent my lunch hour cleaning the "winter residue" from the engine bay. Sprayed the hot engine (shoulda been cool) with two cans of Gunk Foamy Engine Brite (after covering the fuse box and intake) and then misted & sprayed it all down with a water hose. Didn't have to wipe anything to get the dirt off.
I then sprayed it with CD2 Detailing spray for a high-gloss shine! After I got home from work, I sprayed some more CD2 and then wiped off the excess.
After that, I installed my modified & painted STB with donrome's brackets.
It looks great!
About 1.5 months ago, I shipped my engine & fuse box cover over to WhitcomB at GPONA (he's also a member here and did someone elses cover (which gave me the idea to get it done...THANKS!)) I just got them back from whitcomb today, and I just so happened to need a root canal this AM, so I was lucky enough to be home in time to receive them!
The "coup de grace"...the finishing touch under the hood!
I told him to "wing it" with the overall design, but I wanted to incorporate the Impala logo and the "SS"...and he did it well, imo. There are some imperfections in the paint, but it's only noticeable in up-close photos (like the one of the fuse cover). FWIW, and FWIC (it cost), I'm extremely happy with the end result!

I had Flip from GPONA paint the STB after he notched it for me. The diagonal braces are painted with Duplicolor Import Silver and then cleared with high-temp engine enamel. One is flaking at the rear bolt location, but other than that they're in good shape after a year. Only problem is that Flip's silver is a little lighter/brighter than mine, but it's only noticeable to me (i think).

Nope. Just sprayed the two cans of Foamy Engine Brite all over the place and let it sit for 5min. The engine was HOT (supposed to be cold). Used the "mist" setting on the hose sprayer to get the majority of the soap off, then a few quick blasts with the "flat" spray pattern. Ran the engine for 20min then used a polishing cloth to wipe down the painted areas. After it was dry, I sprayed the CD2 detailer (Autozone, $6-7) all over, let it sit for a while, drove around, came home, sprayed some more, let it sit, wiped off excess...then you have what mine looks like.
Keep in mind I hadn't washed the engine bay since last summer sometime, so it was pretty grimy to begin with. I don't care enough to break out the toothbrush
I can't remember, but I might have just washed them down and then sprayed multiple coats of the paint on there. When I paint this over, I'll need to scuff them up a bit to get the new paint to stick.

WOW! I gotta say; you have the nicest Impala SS I have ever seen! Be careful on that engine gunk stuff, it dries up gaskets both rubber and cork. I am sure if you don't use it a lot you'll be fine.
You have taken the next step on appearence mods. Nice choices.
