After market alarms Anyone with any experience putting in aftermarket alarms in the GXP's?
I just got back from the car stereo store (Car toys) and they were saying it would cost about $1900 to install an alarm to maintain the preinstalled features plus to add the other features I am looking for (shock sensor stuff like that)
My car currently has remote lock/unlock trunk, panic, remote start, plus all the onstar stuff.
Is this really how much it would cost?

I paid about $600 here in Miami,FL for the latest Viper alarm. It has the 2 way remote with LCD screen etc. I added a tilt sensor, and a few extra goodies, so it was a little more than $600 after the install, but nowhere near $1900!!!

thanks for the info I'll shop around then. I'm not sure I'd go to circuit city after doing 12k in damage to some poor dudes civic.
Then it looks like they reconciled with the guy after some run around

Well found someone that is way cheaper Well got a quote for $540 to meet all feature parity with stock keyless options plus adding paging, tilt and shock. They gave me a weird look when I mentioned what car toys wanted to do. LOL

I think I'm going to give up on this Well just hit up a 3rd place. They were estimating 1200 bucks. And they mentioned similar things that car toys did about the grand prix. They also seemed somewhat suprised that the car came with remote start.
I think I'm just going to leave well enough alone right now. Ultimately if someone steals the car it has onstar and they can track it that way I guess.

I had one of those 2 way pager alarms with all the bells and whistles on my Impala SS. I thought besides the fact you already have one with my GXP why the hell get one? If it does or does not make the beeping sound if someone really wants your car they can take it. That is why I have full coverage insurance take my car and I will buy A G8 GXP!

Yeah I'm getting that feeling based on other alarm threads I've been reading. I have insurance out the ears on it, so I guess I should just use that.

The feeling of having your stuff stolen is not a good one. Even though I have full coverage on my car, I don't want to wake up and not see my car. Regardless of what insurance pays me. Onstar has the GPS tracking, but adding the alarm adds more security.
BTW: Hey Mel,
No pics of the alarm install, it was professionally installed, and the car looks the same. But there's an alarm there. Just google viper alarms and look for the most expensive one.
