Good by DOD surge, Hello better Shifts
As some can understand using the Diablo tune on our LS4 cars provides undeniable gains in power but at the cost of either poor feeling shifts or an extremely annoying surge while using DOD when the system switches from 4 to 8. For me this was a no win scenario to either accept the surge for the 10% extra economy along with lagging shifts with the concern of additional wear on the transmission.
Let me say I’ve never been unhappy with the stock shift feel. Although cool, I don’t need to hear one of my front tires bark during a WOT 1-2 shift.
Many of us hoped that if or when TCM support comes out that these annoying traits would be cured.
For me I couldn’t deal with the surge. So I had relented to the non DOD tune. With gas prices continuing to climb, I switched back to stock so I could reclaim lost mileage with DOD.
I kept the tool in hopes of a solution and could not sell it knowing I’d put someone else in this same predicament.
DS said the reduced TM in the tune was to blame for the DOD surge. They offered to make a tune with more TM restored. I told them to put it all back in if necessary to cure the DOD issue.
They provided a custom 93 tune with (I assume) all of the TM back in.
This resulted in perfect DOD performance. It also resulted in perfect shifts during part and WOT. I say perfect, but the same briskness as stock. No shudder or lengthy lags anymore during WOT 1-2 shifts.
Throttle response is great like the non DOD tune and I have not had time to log or fix the trims, so I’m sure that too will be improved as I had always needed a +5 adjustment to add in more fuel.
I hope they see fit to add TM back to the tunes until they get TCM support.
At least there is an option to make good use of the tune.
I’m happy and seem to have gotten the best of both worlds.

No I didn't get it in yet. Still planning for this weekend. When the tune file came in yesterday I decided I would load it first.

Okay, got the file in and tested it out. Perfect!!! Surge is gone in DOD. Transfer from 8 cyl mode to 4 cyl mode is seamless. Big plus is the shifts are quick now, none of the short lag or pause that was there before. This is great!

hmmm.. mixed bag of feelings... I'm running the NO DOD tune...
it does definitely shift better...
BUT...
it doesn't seem to climb through the rpm's as quick anymore...
even in neutral... normally, I'm able to blip the throttle and it'll hit up to 4000 rpm - QUICK... but now, I have to hit it harder/longer, and it still will only get up to 3000-3500 rpm, slowly/not as quick as before...
may have to look into removing the TM from certain parts again, but leaving it in for the shifts...

I guess the only way to know for sure would be track times. Mine feels good. My normal routine provides for a couple of same spot WOT when getting on certian roads. From a 30 MPH entry to 85 MPH highway merge speed, mine has seemed great. I have not tweaked the trims yet either.

hehe...
meant I may have to have DS look into it for me, if there's certain things they can remove but leave the rest in there for the shifting part...
