When I took the car in for the pre-warranty-expiration, last-ditch effort at getting the DoD rattle & Transmission issues looked at, they said they could find nothing wrong....so I asked that they do a tranny service so they could look for anything unusual in the pan. Again, they found nothing...
However, on the repair order/receipt, it shows that they put in 5qt. of ATF @ $2.50/qt. Doesn't sound like the right cost on Dex VI, from what I've heard before. Isn't it like $6-7/qt?
Now, it's written up as a generic V8 tranny service @ $129....so is it possible that it's just the computer's way of making the individual line items add up to that amount???
Thoughts? I'm going to call and ask later on, but figured I'd post here in the mean time.

Welcome to my world of non-warranty life!
Jumped over the 36K mark 3 weeks back (closing in on 38K now) Going to pull the tranny pan and install a shift kit next time I am home (on the road in Indy for a few months). Crossing my fingers on no shavings in there.

Sounds like they put in the normal ATF stuff and not the dexron VI fluid.
IF thats the case, they might have to flush all the fluids, because IIRC, you can not mix the older stuff with the new VI.

Dexron 6 is synthetic atf. It is compatible with dex 3. But 06 on up MCSS, IMP SS and I think 05 and up GXP all came with dex 6 from the factory. Its typically about $7 per quart, whereas dex 3 is $2-3 per quart. A lot of gm high end vehicles and trucks have been using dex 6 since 2004. Supposed it will last longer. I still would change it at regular intervals though. Preventative maintenence can be a life saver sometimes.

you can also use valvoline's maxlife atf. it is also a full sythetic transmission fluid that has been approved for dex 6 applications. im not sure on the cost but im pretty sure it will be much cheaper than the oe stuff and is still much better than dex 3
