Default paint chipping problem on hood

ok is it just me or is everyone else having this problem.. i bought my car in jan of this year and have been getting tons of pebble chips all over the front of my hood.. i have always avoided the dump trucks and never really heard any stones hit the window.. I have to have at least over 25 small chips in the front of my hood so far and theres one in the front roof and a few on the side above the front wheels.. For 4 months that horrible.. I owned an 01 grand prix for 4 years and never had that many chips.. Does anyone else have this issue? Should i have my car checked to see if a clearcoat was applied.. I mean by a year i might have no paint left lol.. i know this is normal but i never had over 25 chips in 4 months on the hood in any cars i have owned and seen

Dont follow trucks, cars, etc that will have anything being kicked up from the road.

you could get a bra for the front and then that would cover up the spot or just get alittle bottle of GM touch up paint and go to work.

Its nose the angle of these cars as they are not rather sharp. so when objects fly at it, the object will not deflect as easilly. I've noticed F bodys dont chip that easily....

Mine actually isn't bad. I've had my car about 13 months now, just a couple very small ones on the hood. Now, my front bumper is a mess, but not from stone chips.

Your not alone, my 06 Impala had alot of them, and working at a dealership I usually check out other Impala's/Monte Carlo's and they are usually peppered with small stone chips.

You're not the only one! I thought I was the only one having this problem. The hood and fascia are definitely peppered.

to taz.. yea i try to avoid being close to cars especially trucks.. in my old car i once followed a dump truck that literally dumped stones every time it hit a bump on the highway.. i mean that **** needs to stop.. i think bras look crappy imo.. they are meant to stay on women.. i rather keep my car naked in the front lol.. plus after a few years of having it on, u will see your two tone colors from fading.. And i recently purchased touch up paint and what a pain in the *** it was for the GM ppl to find Precision Red.. I had to give them my VIN number for them to order it b/c the colors they had for impala were cobalt red..

To ryanro.. yep thats what mine look like.. i rather it leave a small scratch then a chip... i guess there nothing to do about it.. My father told me to put liquid glass wax on the hood every month and it will help prevent it from getting chips but i find that hard to believe

With the touch up paint for a lot of the colors you have to go right through GM, Murrays and Autozone didn't have anything for me.

I have a good number of chips on the hood, but most of mine are on the bumper.

My girlfriend lives back on a dirt road (F Michigan and its refusal to pave those thing) so I gave up and ordered the bra since I'm and down that road every few days.

Nothing against what you suggested Taz, but did you know the PaintScratch company will do an exact color match based on a vehicle's VIN? I bought two pens (color and clearcoat) from them for my wife's 2000 Regal, and the color match is perfect. They even carry the gray (bumper) color GM doesn't make anymore.

uhh, Just go to the dealer and get the GM paint pen direct from the parts dept. and you will not have any problems with the color matching.

Sometimes the extra money you spend on the GM parts/products is worth it.

It's not like the pen is that expensive. I think I paid ~$10 for mine (from the dealer), waited 2 days to get it, and it matched perfectly. Definitely worth it.

my from skirt rubbed againts a curb and marked a 6 inch long streak about 1/8th of a inch wide horizontally and i used black spray paint and clear coat from Dupont that was matched for GM black and its been almost 2 years now and looks like the original paint. I also had a million chips on my spoiler and i really mean it every square inch had 4 or 5 chips i sanded it and used dupont rattle can paint and clear and its been about 3 months and looks brand new. looks better then it did from factory in my opinion more smooth looking

hood is ok, but am getting a ton of damage to the body just above the windshield and the rear of the trunk, tiny rust spots, almost looks like they are below the clear coat, will have to address it soon, just started noticing it the other day
