lazer blue, I had the goat for three years and just grew out of it. test drove the monte and loved the car's look, spacious interior and pretty quick accelaration. it feels faster than the gto, even though the gto will probably win in the top end. the fwd / rwd issue does not really bother me as I am not a drag racer, I just like everyday driving performance.
Did your goat have an automatic tranny? I thought it would feel much faster then a Monte Carlo. I bought my Monte expecting it to be faster then my last car, an '02 altima 3.5SE manual with some exhaust mods and an intake, but it's so slow on the highway, the Altima was much faster, the Monte tranny just doesn't downshift properly. I thought a goat would be a hell of a lot faster. I know the goats heavier and has more loss to the rear wheels, but thought the 5.7L would more then make up for that.

my goat was a 6 speed. seat of the pants feel is pretty weak, even though the car is faster than it seems. never to it to the track, so i don't know. The car was also extremely difficult to launch, has massive wheel hop. but from the roll is 1st year to 4th, the tranny was pretty easy to powershift.
I think a stock monte will edge a stock automatic gto. as for your nissan, you might need to get used to driving your monte and estimate at what point to throttle it, or you can get a tune to help the tranny kickdown. I am planning on a diablo so i can take the tune out when i take it in for warranty. but with minimal mods, the monte should take out a nissan altima 3.5

the way I was able to guage it was that my friend has an '07 Altima 3.5SE 6 speed manual sedan, and with my old '02 3.5SE 5 spd manual sedan with the mods I talked about before, we went from a roll and he was edging me out everytime. It seemed that his gear ratios were quite a bit better then mine. His car was very new and barely broken in at that point and stock (They have 270HP stock) But mine with the mods was probably around 255-260hp and slightly lighter. A lot of people underestimate the altimas because majority of them are automatics, but they are very light for their size with the manual (3280lbs) and the VQ35DE is underrated and is the same engine the 350X's had.
Well my monte has the resonator removed as the only mod, and we went again on the highway, I tried a few different speeds, even tried shifting it to first and going, and it was just too weak, he pulled away from me worse then he use to against my old car. He now has a cold air intake and magnaflow mufflers.
I think the race might only be close from a dig, but I feel cheated that I can't get good performance on the highway (I assumed a FWD 303HP car would be a highway monster)

That BMW isn't worth it. Get an older 330 something. The twin turbo and the 6-speed will amaze you. The standard 3.0 in an 04 5 series isn't too impressive. IN retrospect, the 545i is a twin turbo. Nevermind.

Has anyone dynoed a before and after of the tuning?
I'd want the 545i with the 4.4L V8 with 325HP and 6spd manual, but they are pretty scarce and are quite a bit more expensive then the Monte.

I don't think the 545 is going to be much faster than the monte, if you want it for the style then go for it. but there are people here doing low 13's at 104-105 with simple mods.

The magazine got 13.7@102.1 with an '04 545i (usually magazines don't even do as well as enthusiasts)
I have been searching the forums and my understanding is that it is very hard to mod these cars (like the exhaust manifolds) and the tranny can't handle much more then the stock output, etc. All I know is that I went from a roll a few times and it was the same result everytime. Traction control off, and flooring it, or leaving the shifter in 1st or 2d and manually shifting, he pulled on my pretty bad.
Which simple mods would get my car to go low 13's?

If you don't want the Monte anymore get ride of it, get your BMW and have fun paying for those mods. If you think these cars have expensive after market parts look out.
For personal taste get what you want, if you put 10K into any car it will be faster. But for my 10K i would let her breath better, let her exhale better, and make sure she gets more PSI in the intake. (CAI, Exhaust, Turbo, Tune)

I just want a 3500LB car with 303HP to accelerate faster on the highway. Maybe my tranny computer is screwed, but the car only has 13K miles.
I fremember back when I had a turbo Talon, I drove a company truck one time, a Silverado. It must have had the 5.7L, and from what I remeber it felt faster then the Monte.
Off the line is the only time this car can give a good run. I ran with an early to mid 90's vette convertible and had him by a fender up to about 110MPH.

Try a new cam then, the LS4 cam seems to be made for low end power and gobs of torque.
If you get a cam in there with more duration and lift then the top end would feel a lot stronger.
