Default Brake Upgrades

Hey guys. New to the site. Just got an 08 Impala SS few months ago. I'd like to upgrade the brakes. I'm not satisfied with the stopping power of this heavy car. Anybody have some suggestions? I'm not looking for a big brake kit or even a full brake kit. Just some better but very streetable pads and rotors. What would you guys recommend? Thanks. Joe.

There are a few choices out there...

R1 Concepts, Baer (makes front rotors for our cars), Tons of **** on eBay. I went with EBC rotors and pads and I'm very happy thus far.

I bought the AC Delco drilled and slotted rotors with ceramic pads for mine, I'm very happy with them.

I got the rotors through my work ( AC Delco dealer) They were about $75 each I believe, and for some reason they dont make rear drilled and slotted rotors for 06+, so I had to use 00-05 Impala rotors, which are identical to the 06's anyway, dont know why they even bothered changing part #'s.

I know you said that you don't want to change the whole brakeing system but you might want to know about the 05-08 gxp factory brake systems 12.7 front & 12.0 rear drilled rotors best I've ever had even better than the 04 gto I had.......look around you might get lucky and find good salvaged parts for the right price.

Thanks for the information everyone. Seems like there are quite a few easy upgrades that several people are happy with. And to LS4GXP would this be a complete bolt up? Or will there be rim clearance issues? I've read about the front wheels being wider or something on the GXP is it because of the calipers? Thanks again guys.

GXPs come with 18s stock, 17s would clear the bigger brakes but 16s would not thus means that your 16'' spare tire wouldn't work. As for why the front rims are designed wider (255mm)vs(225mm) is all for performance and handling and does not effect the brakeing system your stock 18s will clear it, this should be a complete bolt up but I'm not exacly sure, but I know one thing it will clear everything because the GXP and the ImpSS are identical body design called W-Body.............IMO 99.95% sure it will work without a sweat............best bet go test drive a GXP and see for yourself if you like the brakeing system.

A guy at work has a GXP and the rotors look nice. I may just change mine for the look. I like the black calipers against the silver.

Problem is that the Impala has 12 in the front and 11 in the back.

You would need the whole braking system from an 05-08 GXP to pull this off.

Plus the GXP's don't stop any shorter than the Imps do so I don't know how much of an "upgrade" it would be vs. just aestetics. Now I'm sure with repeated hard braking the GXP system will hold up better, however just looking at basic stopping distance you're not gaining anything you're better off just going aftermarket.

Do a year/make/model search on ebay or summitracing.com for best results and prices.
