There are factory 5.3l Colorados though, I was just knocking the "Full size" bit. Since they're essentially an S-series.

That SS is sweet though, he did a good job on it. Wonder if the SS bumper off a Trailblazer would've worked? Drop the same motor and AWD setup off it under a Colorado... Typhoon anyone? (Or was the pickup the Cyclone? meh...)

well why wouldnt you just get a Z85 4x4 coly with the 5.3 and get the AWD when you want it? The Z85's look like 2wd's anyway.

This Cyclone? Good luck getting a S truck platform under this unibody ferd lololololol

OR

This Syclone?

So from what I understand, the issue holding back an intake swap is the oil plug for the DOD which sticks up near the TB side of the intake. Now, the LH8 that is in the 5.3L Colorado has the same motor that was used in the 5.3L Trailblazer/Rainier/Envoy minus the DOD crap. So the LH8 has a different valley cover as it doesn't have all the DOD crap. Theoretically, is it possible to remove some of the DOD items, plug up whatever oil lines, use the LH8 valley cover and be able to use any other LSx intake? Did that make sense? lol.

That OIL PSI sensor will be there regardless on any gen IV so no there is no viable intake option yet w/o serious modifcation. I dont think the oil manifold is much of an issue from the DOD either.

alright ya'll got the dyno run in ect

after 6 pulls she put down 278whp and 263tq, was pretty heat soaked at this point so true hp numbers weren't showing. IAT where at 178, ECT where in the high 220's-low 230's so he estimates actually HP numbers to be about 10-15 more than what the dyno showed due to heat soak. The guy also didn't get the shift point set right in my mind, I wanted 1-2@6750 2-3@6500 3-D@5500 but car kept shifting at 6100, I think he just forgot to set the transmission shift parameters. Every time it shifted out at 6100 that was peak HP point. I think the cam will be good to 6300-6400 if not more before the HP curve begins to fall off some so I will mess with it later on.
if you just want dyno part of the vid skip to 6:17, other than that this is just a vid of everything put together from start to finish on this project.

So what cam did you end up putting in? Looks like some good pickup and nice Dyno numbers.

Very little in the way of mods anymore, stock valvetrain aside from 918 springs. Catless DP, my HPT tune and modified stock airbox and filter.

I'll try and get some higher speed runs later tonight kidna busy atm and gotta run over to a friends house, no good roads to do these kinda speeds at going there I'll try to also get my launch a little better I keep loosing grip anything less than 30-40 and sometimes even then depending on patch of road I'm on.

edit did you ever get your dod noise issue figured out or just turn it back off?

It was more of an engagment surging issue than noise. With the stock cam and valvetrain back in its nice and quiet. Right now the DOD is off. Little more pleasureable to drive that way.

The DOD lifters only cares about the lift at the cam. Because when the lifter "free wheels" for lack of better words, its gonna depend on how much free travel the lifter has to whether it can accomodate the added lift. So if the lifters can take the added .046" in lift internally the system should operate the same.

I want to correct the pushrod length issue first before i kick the DOD back on.

Amazing how much of a bump in instant fuel econ at a cruising speed in V8 mode between the 2 cams, i cant wait to see what it does with the DOD working.

What is the total lifter travel for a DOD set at zero lash?
