Default MP3's and the Stock Navigation Unit

The stock navigation unit in my '07 GXP plays MP3 discs only sometimes, and even then will repeat certain songs over and over while skipping other songs entirely. I have tried creating the discs using different MP3 writing software, write speeds, etc, but I get the same results. Since my car is a 2007 - my car should already have that navigation/MP3 patch - right? Am I missing something?

Mine has no issues at all. However, I did have to install the patch (mine being an '06).

What program are you using to record? Also, are you using cheapy CDs?

About the biggest issue I have when recording is making the song titles and artists come out in a format that looks good on my screen (darned underscores...).

I've created at least 25 discs, using different types of cd's (including those expensive ones marked "audio") as well as different types of burning software, and different amounts of data - all with the same result. I downloaded the patch, but am afraid to install it in case it freezes up the unit. The text document that downloads with it says "blah blah blah... the "software updating" process may not work and a new navigation radio will be required." So can you understand my hesitation?

That patch looks super old, is there a way to get a newer version?
