pulling out the lt1

Here's a well-documented howto

EDIT: I'll be doing it in the driveway tomorrow.
No lift, no airtools. Just some jackstands, floor jack and (hopefully) a cherry picker.

Evaluate both options, check out this thread, people posted up pics of their motors fully assembled going in/out. I had a ton of questions not too long ago. I went out the top.

Then took about the same time putting it back in, I've done it a few times..

Here it is out the bottom, sitting on the K-member, not an LT1 but you get the idea..
We pulled the motor out the bottom this weekend in my driveway using jackstands,
floor jacks, an engine hoist and a small cart. Pretty painless for having never done it
before and not having anyone there who had. Took most of the afternoon to get it out
and most of the following afternoon to get the new one in.
Had one of the wheels on the cart not failed, it would have been a whole lot easier LOL
Remove the front wheels, support the front of the car on small jackstands.
Put two wheels (face down) under your rear tires to raise the car and keep it immobile.
(Raise and lower the front as needed to accomlish these tasks)
Unplug the entire wiring harness, coolant hoses, front brake lines (most people do this at the master cyl),
front swaybar, tranny linkage and fuel lines (I prefer to simply pull the fuel rail and flip it onto the windshield)
Remove the brake booster from it's mount, remove the AC compressor from the bracket and tie it out of the way.
Power steering resevoir can either come out with the motor or be drained. (I took it with the motor).
Wheel speed sensors need to be unplugged as well.
Then you lower the car so that the tranny and Kmember are supported by a cart (use 4x4s as wedges where necessary)
Unbolt the tranny crossmember and Kmember from the frame.
Unbolt the shock towers, tie them to the Kmember so they don't swing out and damage the brake hose.
Slowly raise the car by the frame, check often to make sure nothing is being stretched,
kinked or otherwise smashed.
Raise jackstands a few notches at a time to support the car in case the jack slips.
I used 3 pairs of jackstands, each pair a different size to accomodate the height.
Once you have enough clearance, set the car down on jackstands, and
simply roll the motor and trans out from under the car.
Then have someone take a goofy picture of you and post it on the internet for everyone to laugh at.
