I wonder if aftermarket head casting vendors are positioning themselves to sell heads
that are large enough from the factory that they don't need porting? (or rather that
porting doesn't improve performance).

you do realize size isn't everything when it comes to ports? And I'm sure they left plenty of meat in there for a 210cc+ CNC porting, should you actually need that much port volume

Sorry for being the party pooper.

Don't get me wrong... I'm stoked that we finally got something in 21 degrees vs. the usual 23. It's just that I was hoping for something a little more radical, seeing how it's a 21 degree head and all. There are plenty of the small runner 23 degree heads out there for those looking to go semi-mild on their build.

I keep hoping for a 18 or 21 degree head with a decent runner volume (215+) that flows 300+cfm out of the box. Something of this nature would prompt me to spend another pile of cash on a more hardcore build.

All that said... still can't wait to see real world results on this head!

Who knows, maybe Trickflow will step it up on their next head design.

I was thinking the same, anyone can get a 185-210cc head already. I was looking into a 225 or bigger that would really be great on a car with a large single plane, preferrably with a 21* to keep the valvetrain simple.

Compared to the last TFS heads they managed to drop the chamber down to a size the NA guys will love, increase head flow, and keep the runner size down for smaller cube engines while still leaving more on the table for porters...all while keeping the price in check.

I don't think there is much to complain about! These heads will flow 300+ in the right porters hands and are priced competatively with the other high end offerings.

Of course raw flow numbers dont always mean more power, but the price is very fair for something you can throw on a stock shortblock build without losing tons of compression, that aren't too much runner for stock cubes to keep the port velocity up, and that still flow as good or better out of the box then a lot of ported stock castings.

Too eary to tell of course, but I would expect good results out of the box on mild cammed stock cube builds, and great performance out of ported sets on big cammed strokers.

understood, I suppose it just easier for them to make a head and let everyone else do the R&D on the ports. Or maybe they're just lazy.

I agree with Houdini. I have out-the-box AFR 210's that work very well. I'd be very interested in 21 deg TFS heads with big chambers and 215+ cc ports. I don't like to rely on a person to port my heads because there are too many variables.

Wouldnt these degree heads keep you out of most of the racing classes? Like at the shootout??

We also put the same spring package that we offer on our LS heads. 1.300" dual spring with 150lbs @ 1.800" installed and 450lbs @ 1.200" open.

Here are the flow #'s on this head.

.100 65 54
.200 138 117
.300 202 162
.400 243 189
.500 270 197
.600 273 209

AI is one of our dealers and they do a great job in porting our current castings. I am sure they will make great numbers with the new castings aslo!
Why is the website showing different numbers?
