Default Widest tire on stock rims?

What is the widest tire that will fit on the stock 16" rims? I went to put on my friends vette rims on my car just to see what it would look like.. The 10.5 wide dish wouldn't fit to bolt them on. He has 285's, I don't have the cash to get new rims at the moment so wondered what size I could put on the back to make them not look so little/get little better traction.

Also, what is the widest rim we can fit? 10"?

what year was his vette?? it must have been the backspacing because they should have fit!! i have 9.5 all around one car and then 11 in the back on my other car.....and your stockers should be 16X8 so 245 to 255 at the most..

you can put an 11" on the back with the right offset. Many have done this with 315's

don't know if anyone has ever tried the 11's on the front, though.

you can run 255 on the stock 16x8

There is a guy here that put 11's on the front of an LT1 Z28. Looks good I think. Thought about doing it myself.

not liking the 11's on the front but, oh well.. .it takes all kinds... 255's I think is the biggest to go with the 16" rims. It may be possible to fit a wider tire on the rim but, you get that bulging sidewall that looks like the tire is way to big for the rim then... dont know if its safe like that or not either.

you can check tire rack and if yo look in the specs for a tire theyll show the width of the tire and the suggested rim width. if that helps.
