I am planning on doing a H/C job on my car this spring. I'm thinking heads, mild cam (gm847 maybe), and a 58mm TB. A performance shop owner I know said the bottom end would handle a 125 wet shot no problem. Could I do both of these without messing with the fuel system? The motor would never see over 6500 revs, and the wet shot is delivering its own fuel, so I dont know if fuel delivery upgrades are necessary. Please give your opinions, and if you think the fuel system does need bolstering, then what are you thinking? Injectors, FPR and a warbro 255L? I dont have a fat wallet, so I would like to do this on the cheap. But starting over from scratch will obviously be more expensive than the fuel system.
I recently did a head cam swap and my fuel pump **** its pants. So i'm currently installing a racetronix fuel pump kit to replace the stock one. I hear good things about walbro too. With the heads and cam alone you'll be needing new injectors. I upgraded to 30#SVO's but decided to go another step up with injectors. with a cam like the gm 847 you'll probably want a decent sized injector. Let the pro's come in to help measure. (I believe with my setup the svo's would have been fine but i went another step for future mod's sake.)
Oh and if you are going to put a cam in it that won't rev over 6500rpm, I'm almost possitive the gm847 really enjoys high rpm.. if you plan to port and polish the heads go ahead and just get a package from elliottsportworks.com or advancedinduction.com they're both very reputable.

Just a note, you had mentioned "the wet shot is delivering its own fuel", the only fuel it gets is from your fuel system, the nitrous is delivered from the bottle, so you need a better fuel pump too handle the load, especially with a head/cam change, the Walbro 255 should fit your needs, i bought a knockoff walbro 255 for 100.00 bucks from EPP, so far its working great, there are a few other things you'll need to get to play it safe, nothing about these cars are cheap when it comes to add ons, if you don't have/want to start shelling out the $$$$$, then i would leave it as stock as possible, meaning other then bolt-ons, stop there, because you have 1 major thing you really need to be concerned about being an M6 car & adding power, the rearend, its just a dinky 10 bolt with a 7.5" ring gear, they will break before you know it, putting any money into them is not worth it either, so you'll be adding a 9" or S60 before too long, if you really want to do it on the cheap & have fun & go fast, heres what you could do, i've witnessed this guy run 12.5s @ 112-114 on this set-up in his 95 Z28 M6, with stock 3.42s.
NX nitrous wet system, 100 shot
BFG DRs 255/50/16s on stock rims
Stock clutch, stock fuel pump (which i wouldn't recammend but he was getting away with it)
Stock Manifolds/exhaust (just gutted the Cat)
K&N CAI & Elbow
Mail order tune for the nitrous & window switch.
That car was so impressive to watch at the track (for me anyways), because it looked stock, but in reality it was, right down to the stock salad shooters lol. Thats the best way to go cheap & have a blast. my .2 cents.
Thanks for the input. I guess the fuel will be a necessary step. I have decided on the heads, but not yet on the cam. I just threw the gm847 out there.
Go with a custom grind cam so you can get what you want out of it. And agreed with what said above, this **** adds up quicker than you'd expect! It's addicting though Good luck!
lt1z28camaro, what times do you run? You have taken about the same direction I am going. I'm planning on doing a 12 bolt soon after the H/C job. I don't need anything too strong as it is almost exclusively a street car with kdw's. I may talk to LE or AI for the cam, but have decided on AFR's new eliminators.
I'm just now getting all of the bugs out of my setup so I don't have any times yet.. People with similar setups run 12.00's and high 11's. Nothing to crazy, but it's my dd so it's enough for now. The cam I have makes power to about 6200 rpm's then starts to level off and rev limiter is at 6500rpm's. This may be a good cam for you actually.. People with stock bottom ends have pushed it to the 230/236 LE cam but i didn't want to push my bottom ends limit..
I just want a mild cam cause I don't want to beat up the heads. I want to do a forged 396 with a d1sc in the future and don't want to replace the heads.
