I've got a 160* and it's also tuned for it. It usually runs right around 170*. In stop and go traffic, or if it's just sitting for a little while, it'll creep up to around 180*, or so.

Mine runs on the first mark. 160 t-stat, maybe even a shade below first mark.
If its really important, just pull it out and look.

Keep in mind that I live in SW FLA... When I first got the car, it had a stock unit and ran HOT... I couldn't BELIEVE it when I read that the engine was designed to run at 220 degrees for emissions.

The problems began when the fans stopped coming on... which meant that when I was underway it ran around 180-200, but when I hit traffic, it would quickly climb quickly to the nervous zone.

Around that same time I started taking her to the track and found out that a cool to cold Z28 is appreciably faster than a warm to hot Z28... I yanked the therm entirely and put the fans on a switch...

I wouldn't recommend this for you artic dwellers, but I run my Z between 160 and 170 and I race her at something south of 160... I found that ten degrees equates to a tenth in the 1/8th for us... (now this is 160-180, I've never had a slip available in street runs where I was running over 180...) FYI: Our track is roughly sea level.

stock fans come on at 226 231 i belive it, or 221 226

i run a 180 for the winter with the fans tuned to come on at 185.
summer i run a 160 with same fan setting. in heavy traffic the fans turn on, but while cruising it runs about 165ish.
no tune tune for it though, wish i did..

but even with the 180, i dont build any heat, so i have to try and figure out what is wrong.
