Yeah we should be past that part. He's talking about were you select the com port {ie usb port} for the program to interact with the ALDL cable. I need a little more info from him to help him out.

Did you turn the key on the column to the run position. Had that problem with a scanner until I realized I'm an idiot. Don't know if the cables work the same and it is simple...just throwing it out.

BTW, I was using a USB-serial adapter. Could this be my problem? I don't wanna buy the USB cable and it be useless.

Nah, it shouldn't be the adapter unless you have the one that has numbers on it with little pins. If you do have that one and you've accidently moved those pins to a different position, you change the configuration of the adapter.

Well some of those adaptors are made to accomodate several configurations. Just because something uses a 9 pin serial port, doesn't mean that it uses all 9 pins or it may use those 9 pins in a different order, similar to a firing order. Hopefully that helps some.
