Default LT1 heads ?

Can our LT1 heads correctly be used on a '79 350, or say a '89 350/305?

they can but there are things that have to be done to them by a machine shop that makes the swap non cost effective. For the money involved you can buy better sbc heads.

As they are, no. Water Jacket is way different, and no Coolant Cross Over in the Head.

Yes and no. I did an lt1 intake and head swap on a 90 iroc. there is a website. i wanna say it is http://www.lt1intake.com/files/swapping.htm but i could be wrong he has all the stuff to do it. I think it was worth every penny. Since i was able to do everything myself. It was cost effective. If you are not able to then it may not be. PM me if you would like more info

no. as stated the water jacket is different (due to the reverse coolant flow pattern. it is possible to machine them, but it would be way too expensive to justify it, if you are going to go back to GEN 1 SBC, stay away from the 305. the small bore limits valve sizes greatly and makes no power compared to the 350. i would pick up some AFR Eliminator heads , or Dart Pro 1 heads for the GEN 1 SBC

Are they aluminum heads off an Fbody, or cast off a Bbody? If they're aluminum ones, I may be interested, and am sorta close, so I could come pick them up. How much you want for them?

Wasn't there a reverse flow waterpump for the newer GEN I SBCs? I swear that my 90 Suburban TBI required one, and if you put that pump on an incorrect setup, bad things happened. Wouldn't that pump + reverse cooled LT heads work out? :\ I know that the heads still lack intake coolant ports, but not sure if that'd matter in this instance, like our motors. Maybe run an EWP for an LT1 to do reverse? :\ Don't mind me though, just ignorant questions

the reverse flow water pump was because of the serp belt drive. it didnt actually spin the fluid backwards through the motor, the serp belt turned the pulley backwards, but i belvie the impellers spun the water the right way.

the guy is better off putting an lt1 into his car, than trying to make the heads work.

i should have swapped an lt1 into my car, it would have cost about the same, and make more power...

1. the waterpump turned in the opposite direction, but had the same flow due to the serpentine instead of the v-belts.

2. i agree that with the time and effort involved that you should just swap an LT1.

3. i dont know if that is a fair statemtent that the LT1 would have made more power and cost less. good GEN 1 SBC aftermarket heads (1400 for the AFR 227cc's) are cheaper than paying $2000 for heavy port work done by AI, LE, etc.

if you wanted fuel injected the LT1 fuel injection is far superior to the TPI that would have been the right price.

if you wanted carbed the gen 1 SBC would have been a better choice.
