George and I were both running blowers back then. My Blower blew up and took out every thing so I stopped for a while.
George was running teh Canfeilds and used to rave about how great they were...and it was hard to deny
My car is doing ok. Did not break into the nines this year due to limited budget and chasing N2O control problems.
SO I said F it and sent all the 18* stuff off to get finished and the top end of my engine is up for sale Made over 640RWHP and looks like it was on its way to 660RWHP when the Converter let go
The canfields were always great heads you guys are luck to have them

From what I heard they were great heads as well. Also from what I hear, and Fred (Injuneer) can confirm, is that there was A LOT of work done to George's Canfields. I believe Fred stated something to the effect that by the time Second Street got done with the heads, Canfield wouldn’t even recognize them.
Ellis, I remember when you built your motor and that P600B went south on you. That was a loooong time ago on CZ28.com.
SS RRR, George was running LPE heads, but then went to the Canfields.

i am running a set of canfields and i can say i like them a lot. although i am having issues with the intake sealing like mentioned earlier. click link in sig to see them in action. could not get the car to hook on show night.

Hahaha..Man! That was a wild ride What show was that? Pretty cool to be on a TV show. Is that something like an alternative to "Pinks"? You certainly outperformed their speculations. What kind of intake sealing issue is it? Is it that the intake/head mating surfaces are at different angles or that the elevation is different and the bolt holes don't line up or ?????

the show was 'pass time' on speed, it is basically a gameshow. the same people that make pinks are putting it on.
the intake manifold ports and head intake ports do not mate up at the perfect angle. the bolt holes have been slotted because they did not line up exactly right. i am not sure if the heads have been milled or not but when i remove the intake i can see a deeper indention in the upper portion of the intake gasket but i have not had any vacuum leaks so it is sealing ok there. my issue has been getting the rear of the intake to stay dry. i have a ton of sealer on it now so i am hoping it will hold this time.
those are nice looking heads, they should work well for you.

Just about finished with the install of the heads. I had a real hard time finding any info on the heads and even at that, some of it was wrong.
Here's what I've seen, found, discovered about them so far...
Here's what I've seen, found, discovered about them so far...
- I was told to use the FelPro 1010's. That was wrong. The FelPro 1074's work fine. The 1010's would be a disaster since they would expose coolant and oil passages to each other.
- I was told of some guys encountering Intake manifold fitment problems(having to enlongate the intake bolt holes/slots). I didn't have that issue. It was tight but no grinding/clearancing was needed.
- The Canfields have provisions for the blocks dowels but didn't match the block dowels. I used my Head gasket and a sharpie to mark the dowel receivers, then carefully drilled them out a bit.
- Two cylinders rocker stud holes were too shallow to let the ARP Rocker studs to seat fully before they bottomed out in the hole. This was for cylinders 2 and 4. All the rest were fine. Odd..... I took those studs to the grinder and took off about an 1/8th of an inch. All was well after that.
- You need a thin walled 1/2" socket to get the center head bolt tightened(between the Exhaust springs/valves on cylinders 4, 6 and 3 , 5. The spring seats extend to almost preclude you putting a socket on the head of the ARP bolt.
- Normal LT1 intake gaskets work fine, but... Like the block dowel holes, the Canfields don't have provisions for the intake gaskets plastic dowels. I used my intake gasket and a sharpie to mark the dowel receivers, then carefully drilled them.
- Because of the slightly canted intake valve position (off .150 from stock), the stock valve covers fitment may prove to be an issue.

Just ordered some Scorpion 1.7 ratio, 7/16" stud, .150 offset Roller rockers(SCP1034). Due to some conversation in a separate thread where we're discussing the valve stems on my just removed Ported LT1 Castings, I thought I'd punt on my old rockers. These are Stainless Steel Ferrara LT4 sized valves and my machinist stated the tips on some valves looked 'beat up'. After much debate, it was offered that the rocker arms might be in poor shape. I have had these CC ProMags (1.6, 7/16" ratio) on there since 2007 when I went to the solid roller cam. I don't know for sure they're at fault, I just thought I'd make sure and get some new ones. Plus, with these .150 offset Canfields, I would feel better with the rockers matching. This 1.7 ratio in conjunction with my current cam will move my I/E lifts to .607/.602

Some good info on these heads, I'm subscribing to this thread. My 385 stroker is running a set of these but are ported (bought the car like this). But like you said earlier there isnt much info on these heads. Any updates?

The heads are on the car. I'd been really busy with work and my daughter joining the Marines (I went to her boot camp and MCT graduations) and the snowy NY weather so only last week did I get to make some serious progress. I don't have the ignition hooked up yet (setting up the LTCC again) but I did turn the motor over just to make sure all my wiring and grounds were right. I welded up a custom exhaust pipe from the down pipe from the turbo to the Borla catback and I'm so freakin' happy I once again have ground clearance.
Bad news is, I got 'rolled off' at work due to budget issues with some clients (I write software for Telephony companies). I have a lead on a new contract but it's a sweatshop and I won't get much time to do anything. I may ask my friend Kevin at Xtreme Automotive to get the last bits n' pieces put together while I'm slaving 6 days a week for 72 hours.
