Default Your opinion here

So me and basically everyone iv talked to around town have all told me different answers. Im going to change the plugs and wires on my LT1 but do i have to change the opti? I have got alot of yes/know answers to this question. Also do you have to remove the water pump to get to the opti. I hope this debate ends here. =)

If you are just replacing the plugs and wires you dont have to replace the opti. If you want to replace the opti, yes you will need to remove the water pump

while the tr55's are nice, they are a copper core meaning that they will wear out ALOT faster then a regular plug.

No you don't have to change the OPTI.

Yes you would have to remove the Water Pump to get to it.

I've got 2yrs and about 15,000 on my TR55s. She still drives fine and just recently ran a personal best. I normally change them once a year. She'll have new ones by the time the track opens back up.

How many miles on the Opti? You don't have to change it no. If it's pushing a lot of miles then it might not be a bad idea. "Thepartsladi" sells new Opti's at a good price. The pump does have to be removed. I've got some MSD wires and NGK TR55's up for sale if you haven't already got new wires and plugs. $50 shipped for everything. Both have 2k on them so they are fairly new. Good luck!

Sounds good let me know. And with 104 on the Opti you might want to consider changing it out.

Mine had 148k before i changed it.. i think hes in the clear. i recommend some autolite 103's or 106's (depending if spraying or not) ive had the best luck with them and have lasted the longest. and theyre cheap as hell too

If its not broke why fix it?

Replace opti only if theres a problem. Its a bitch to replace not worth the trouble.

well i guess its not " officially" broke but the car does seem to have a slight miss in it that continues to get worse but i guess theres no way of knowing which parts are failing

i don't know for sure, but could a autozone hookup tell you if the opti is in tip top shape...i hear they are free so it cant hurt, but my god some of those people that work there aren't the brightest...A 16-20 year old guy was looking up a part number for me on the computer and when he was going to show me where the oil filter was he asked "is your my trans am a 4 cylinder or a 6 cylinder"...I stopped dead in my tracks...I am 19 and even at 16 I knew trans am was only in the same sentence with 4 cylinder if you were talking about beating 1! I looked at my friend who is an f-body guy too...I said 8 cylinder, but i wanted to slap the kid. I asked the kid if he thought the K&N or the Mobil 1 oil filter was better for my car..he said "the K&N" so i got the mobil 1 since that was the oil i was using anyways lol.
