Default thinking bout goin carb... questions on the intake

Thinking about switching out the efi and putting a vic. jr intake on there. My question is what machine work is needed to put a gen1 carb intake on a lt1? Second if i do that, cant i run a reg. dist. off my msd since the cam has a dist. gear on it and the block has the hole for it? Reason not going with a gen1 sbc is because i like the reverse cooling heads, already aluminum and flow better stock then ported gen1 heads, no coolant through the intake = cooler air/fuel mixture etc.

--- i dont need the **** talkers about how much better the efi is, im not a idiot, just weighing my options out here ---

Interested as well, I thought I saw a lt1 intake manifold somewhere that was made for a carb? if not, curious on what needs to be done. Wondering if this would easier/cheaper to deal with when trying to hit 10s and spraying 150 shot? plus I have an extra demon carb that was too big for the GTO

You need to have the intake holes drilled out, yes a regular GEN I distributor will fit but you will need to trim the cowl back and the carb will fit fine but you need a carb hat or a super low air cleaner.

The GM LT1 carb intake is really nice and allows a distributor. They also make a plate for the Optispark hole.
If you are drag racing you could use a crank trigger with an MSD and an Optispark. You could also have a pretty nice street set-up if you ran a 7-AL2 and used some of the retard features (still with a crank trigger).

I wonder if that would fit with a carb spacer under a cowl induction hood with a normal air cleaner. Anyone running a carbed lt1 wanna jump in with any tips or advice?

The biggest problem that you will have is with the cowl. There are several crate motor cars running IHRA Stock Eliminator with 750 cfm holleys. For easy distributor removal they usually cut out a section of the underside of the cowl and fix it back with Dzus fasteners. You can also look into dropping the motor a little (watch the oil pan clearance).
