Moser, Strange,12bolt 9" etc.

personally, I thought the Torque-arm bracket on my Moser 9" was junk.. possibly the worst setup I've seen, the floor pan of the car had to be liberally "massaged" to get it to even remotely clear, and even with 4ppl in the car, it would still contact the floor pan when you hit a bump.
if you've got an auto, I'd go for a 12-bolt. they're lighter than the s60 and more efficient than the 9".
plus, there are quite a few quick cars running 9's with a 12-bolt in, uhh... stock eliminator, I think? where they mandate a GM rearend for a GM car.
besides, you're car's a chevy. why put in a chrysler, or ford rearend in it?

That's why I agree with the guy right up there ^^^ that I forgot to quote. :/
build with moser/strange/etc... and it's not chrysler or ford or whatever, it's moser or strange. lol... just happens to be a similar size and design to a ford or chrysler. and honestly... i wouldn't replace the part (10-bolt) if it wasn't so willing to crap out on me.
I reward quality with my money.
I reward a brand with nothing. Loyalty will be given... as long as you're the best.

N/A a 12-bolt is the cheapest way to go fast. Of course, I am biased because I have to run a GM rear. I have had great success with 12-bolts. My cars usually sixty foot in the mid 1.3's. For a high HP/high torque car I would go with a nine inch. They are much easier to work on (sooner or later you will break something).

I think there are other ways to pull weight out of the car to make up the difference of going with a heavier duty rear. Why take a chance?
I will be going with an S60 here in a few weeks and I've planned to pull weight from other area's to make it up some.

I'm sure there are.
I'm personally not too terribly worried about weight.
I have leather interior and power windows... at the moment i have ~500 lbs of tools in my car. (helps a lot in the snow, actually. lol)

I've had a Moser 9", Strange 12 bolt and Strange S60.
The 9" never gave me any issues other then the **** TA bracket tore my floor even after bending and BMH it over. This was in my 96 Z/28 back 6 years ago.
The Strange 12 bolt fit nice and was direct bolt-in. I I did have issues with 2 gear sets and tons of noise. This would occur after 1 launch at the track and I was told it's not going to hold up by Strange. They do not recommend the 12 bolt for cars that will see lots of drag strip duty and hard launches.
The S60 is now in the car and fit great as well. There has been no issues after many hard launches.
The S60 is heavy, but being stronger and said to be more efficient works for me. I could care less about the little weight.
GIZMO most people do not have the $ to spend thousands extra to get every light weight drivetrain piece. I know you need to stay competitive with the racing you do and fully understand the reasoning.

You did say that we will be posting alot of how come my car wont 60, and then another post about how come my car weighs so much?? If you didnt post that Its all good, but I do beleive that is what you posted.
There are a few street cars running those numbers with the S60 and to me a 1.4 is a damn good 60.
I know you are very competive but LS1 speed is right not everyone has bottomless pockets for lightweight parts and truthfully the little extra over the 9" is not going to hurt you.
The 12 bolt is just weak and notorious for gear whine. Although it is the lightest of the bunch. I dont know why you would recomend it unless you needed it for a specific class to meet the rules. Id rather build up a 10 bolt than put in a 12bolt

Oh Im not worried about my car, just saying those were pretty bold statements that are directed at guys with S60s. Considering what I have seen, I would def say a true street car running 1.4s is great. If it were a fully gutted light weight race car im sure it would turn much quicker 60s.
A new bolt in s60 is the cheapest way to go, strongest, best fitting, least amount of gear whine, and supossedly the most efficent if all parts being equal.
I def understand you have to run a GM rear but for a street/strip car alot of guys will get pretty pissed pretty fast if it A. breaks or B. has lots of gear whine. Either of those will drive a guy crazy. And if it has a good chance of breaking why not just keep the 10 bolt. I mean we are only swapping out the 10 bolt for strength right?? Why just put in the 2nd weakest rear unless you have to????????????????????
