i hear s60's are heavier.
not sure.
do they also have more rotating mass? (i.e. - would they eat more power)
I'm looking around for a new rear end also... haven't made up my mind.
12 bolt strange with locker
9 inch moser with locker
midwest chassis has a 9 inch with posi... not sure what type of posi/what kind of HP those can handle.
I'd like to find a posi that will reliably handle ~650 hp full time and about a 150 or 200 shot of nitrous on top of it.

I paid $2225 Shipped for what I got, it was all new. Center Section came assembled.
Moser Housing with Drain Plug, 31 Spline Axles, True Trac, Moser 3.50 Gears, Strange Nodular Iron S-Case, Torque Arm Bracket and all the Studs/Bolts. I had a couple of Studs strip, and got sent new ones for free.
PM me and I'll send you a link.

S60 is the strongest and and is more efficient than a 9" with apples to apples set up
ie.. 35spline axles, same diff, etc. Wich = the strongest and least amout of hp loss and its the cheapest bolt in ready rear also you can reuse your stock or aftermarket TA. + I have 0 gear whine that the 12bolt and 9" are notorious for.
Another huge bonus with the S60 is it fits the best period.

ive been researching rear ends for quite a while now because within the next 8 weeks im ditching the 10 bolt after rebuilding/replacing 4 times now. here is what i have found so far.....
12 bolt: heavier than a 9" and lighter than the S60, but has less rotational mass giving it the least amount of parasitic loss out of the three. is a straight bolt in and utilizes the stock driveshaft. is made as a direct bolt in by several companies, and comes with the ABS stuff installed already.
9": lighter than the 12 bolt and S60, but with more rotational mass than the 12 bolt and less than the S60 putting it in the middle as far as parasitic loss. consider by many to be stronger than the 12 bolt although i beleive them to be pretty much the same. has been known to hit the floor pan in back on lowered vehicles when they bottom out the suspension.
S60: heavier than the previous two and carries more rotational mass giving the most parasitic loss of all three. can be set up for ABS at additional cost. requires driveshaft modification. considered by most to be the strongest of all three. also known for clearance issues on lowered cars.
i am going to go with the S60 due to the fact that i believe it to be the strongest of all three. bear in mind that the parasitic loss between the three is marginal. we are talking a mere few ponies but at the gain of reliability. also the S60 is the cheaper in base form out of the three, however if you plan to keep your ABS and choose to upgrade your driveshaft, cover, and yokes, be prepared to break into the realm of $3k+. all in all i believe it to be the best choice of the three, and am looking forward to coming out the hole with my foot through the floor and not having to worry if my diff is going to give up again. tired of babying it off the line and then trying to get into it just to keep it together.
just my $.02 for what its worth.

I kinda agree^^^ but I do think the 9" has the most HP loss even though it is lighter! The S60s gear/pinion placement is designed to be the strongest and most efficent depite it being heavier and its not that much heavier than a 9" maybe 25 pounds total with the 35 spline axles. An Apples to apples rear the S60 is within a couple HP of the 9"

I got myS60 right from Strange. Fits great. I feel the strength is worth the extra weight.
They told me 3 weeks, it arrived in 2 1/2. With ABS and True trac it Was just under $2500 shipped if I remember right. I had a new driveshaft made for the car with the larger u-joints on both ends. No regrets.
