You can get a carb style intake with bungs etc and fuel rails. But it is for the standard bolt head sbc. so other then having new bolt holes drilled. That is all you have to do. And as a added bonus you can get rid of your opti and run a tbi distrubutor

We have converted a handful of various single planes for LT use. If it is profesionally done then you will get into a fair amount of machinework. On the other hand some guys do quick & dirty conversions and have decent results. Typically by the time the manifold is properly machined to mate to a given combination you will have $700-1000 invested depending upon which manifold is appropriate. Keep in mind you will still need a TB, inlet system, fittings and lines, etc. It is not uncommon to have $2000 or more in a complete ported setup with quality parts.

For most guys in normal power ranges the $ might be better invested in cylinder head & valvetrain.

can you just use this one.. http://store.summitracing.com/partde...5&autoview=sku and redrill the holes, pop in your injectors and a new fuel rrail if you want, elbow and stock TB and be done with it?

Edelbrock also makes a Victor "E" Already has bungs and you can buy the matching fuel rails. You will have to have the bolt holes changed to match LT1 heads.
No one to my knowledge makes an elbow to fit a LT1/TPI type throttlebody anymore. You will have to convert to a round style throttlebody.
Unless you are making 550+hp it really not warranted. Unless you are spraying a large shot of NO2

Edelbrock Vic-E EFI for a SBC....will need to be converted to LT1 bolt pattern...or redrill the heads for the SBC bolt pattern...all ready has the injector bungs.

I run a Professional Products Super Hurricane EFI manifold (Victor rippoff), with a custom elbow. My friend fabbed up the intake and made a jig so he can just mount an SBC intake into the jig and then drill out the new holes at the correct angle. You need to run a different fuel rail iirc. But it was NOWHERE near the $2000 price that was posted above. The pricing was more along these lines:
Intake: $250
Fuel rail: $75
Elbow: Custom, but can be purchased at that nitrous place for $315
Machine work: My friend would charge about $300-$400 or so. That would include chopping off the water neck, welding in the transfer tube holes.
Grand total is around a grand.

Not really. There is one cooling hole per head that needs to be filled in. I have heard of guys that weld them shut, but them you run in to the issue of possibly having to heat treat the head (not sure on that) and milling it flat. The ones that I saw converted simply had the cooling hole that needed to be filled, slightly enlarged/threaded and then plugged with a plug similar to a threaded freeze plug. You have to also keep the cooling-transfer tube in the back, but that is simple with an SBC head/intale combo, because they run a transfer tube in the intake at the back of the intake.
Another tiny snag that happens when you do this is you MAY run into an issue with your new SBC valve covers hitting your alternator if you run old school SBC valve covers. On the stock LT1's the passenger side cover is notched for clearance.

only thing with running gen1 heads I HEAR is they flow like garbage. lt1 heads flow just as good bone stock then a set of mildly ported gen1 heads. AND not to mention you already start off with a set of aluminum heads as opposed to cast ones (comparing stock for stock).

Nobody swaps old school gen1 stuff though. You are thinking of the fabled "double hump fuelie" heads of the 60's which were the **** way back when, which are garbage comparatively now. A stock LT1 head flows better than any head the General ever put onto a SBC. Not the aftermarket though. A set of SBC AFR Eliminator heads will run you $1400-$1500 or so assembled and hit the 300cfm mark.
It is actually cheaper to convert SBC AFR heads to the LT1 than it is to buy the LT1 version from AFR. How weird is that?

you know why that is though. newer stuff is always more expensive. I.E. the LS1 heads are more exp. then LT1 heads. plus less competition so the price can stay up.
thats awesome about the sbc heads. that would be very easy to do. both the threaded in freeze plug, and the crossover through the intake.
another reason I could see to do the sbc heads conversion instead is cause they are plentiful used and cheap.
