Default 4.11s

Thinking about making 4.11s my first mod because I think they will complement all other mods. What do you guys think?

I just put in 4.10's in my 12-bolt last week, and all I can say is WOW. I wish I had done it sooner.

I run them and my car is an A4...Great mod for N/A especially when paired with 28" tall tires...

i have them in my 9" and enjoy them as well. should be a stronger gear set than the 4.10s which is always nice.

If it is a street car, i avoid anything over 3.73s, just not gear and traction in first. When you have LOTS of power, you have no first gear.

key point here is M6,my car is a daily driver, cross country with 4.10s and would not change to anyother gear,it puts you where you need to be at the end of the 1/4 then ya got 2 more gears to get ya home! if the lack of traction in 1st gear get rid of the regular radials and get DR's.......

With an M6 they are definetely the right choice, with an A4 they may be a bit much for some guys. The original poster has an M6.

I want to get some now! BUT what I have heard is 4.10s are weaker than 3.42s in a stock rear end.. I go to the track and I do leave a bit hard on tire so I want to make it last... Should I leave 3.42 in it for now until I plan on doing a 12bolt?

Didnt mean to hijack!

Being you are a M6 you stand a lot better chance of breaking if you go to 4.10's. Now if you just roll raced it wouldn't be as big of an issue. Hard launches w/ 4.10 and your stock 10 bolt could result in you buying that 12 bolt sooner then you might want

Don't get me wrong 4.10' would be sick with your M6 but I would personally wait until you upgrade the rear

Agreed! Dont do what I and many others im sure have done, spending your money on the stock 10-bolt, it breaking in a few months and gettin it fixed and then same thing happens down the road again. By then you with the money youve spent on the 10bolt you could have just about had a Ford 9" instead.

But yeah +1 for 4.10 gear

4.10's it is!! I think just the fun factor will make it well worth it. I have an 83 K10 swb with 35x15.50, 4 speed, 305 and 4.10s in 1 ton axles, it will lift the front tires. Gears do wonders....

WHEN I break it I'll buy a new one...lol. It wont have hardly any track time, just a fun street bruiser. But we all know it'll let go either way.

I agree, i would just leave the 3.42s in the 10 bolt & build a 9" on the side, put your $$$ in the 9", NOT the 10 bolt, take that 5,6,700.00 that you would be out installing gears in the 10 & put it towards the 9", for a grand, you can get the Moser houseing/axle/bearing package, then all you need is a 3rd. member.

Now, as for gears, if you build a 9", get the 4.30s & skip the 4.10s, it'll still be as strong, but from my exsperience, once i stepped up to a taller tire (26.4" DR), the 4.11s weren't as spectacular as with the 24.4" 17s, the reason i say this is, PLAN out your goals, in time you'll most likely put on a set of 15" wheels, then you'll be installing a taller DR like a 26-27-28" tall tire, you'll wish you went with the 4.30s, i'll garuantee it, & i'm sure others will agree, when i installed the 9" with 4.11s & the 24.4" tire i had, the car felt awsome (kneck jerker), but the car didn't hook too well, once i installed the 26.4" DRs, it lost alot of zip, it still feels good, but not like it did.

Any aftermarket gear is going to most likely be weaker than factory gears.
