Seems the builder lied to m about shipping as well as many other things. I wish I could take part but it looks like I will be going to an LQ9 if this shop ever pays me like they promised.

You would need two then, one for vacuum, one for vent. Just pulling a vacuum on the unit will not keep the moisture out, you would need a flow of air (vacuum) through the unit to draw the moisture out. Just a thought!!!

edited... after thinking, I realized the opti has a built in vent!!!
Sorry for the confustion

Mike

You haven't look at an Optispark then, or are just not familiar with them (which means you probably shouldn't make commentary on this, just making an observation), but the optisparks have a cast-in vacuum port on the metal body of the unit at the bottom, and the black cap has the fresh-air source port cast into it, thus with the stock optispark setup you have an air inlet and outlet.

Since he is replacing the cap with his own sealed cover he just added the brass elbow fitting to allow fresh air into the unit to fight moisture/condensation buildup on the optical parts. It is expected to be used with the still-existing vacuum port on the base.

Why does there seem to be this 'attack' from you and S10Wildside against this guys endeavors???

This is the exact stupidity I was referring to when I mention it before. Just because this guy came up with a much simpler setup with less parts, less disassembly and overall a MUCH better idea (especially considering s10wildesides endeavors don't have misfire detection because he doesn't have a custom OS for the setup), why the hell do you guys need to keep making ignorant commentary???

Honestly, this setup is FAR beyond S10Wildsides eandeavors as it is a sheer FRACTION of the cost. If misfire isn't useable at all on either then it is a moot point of the possible 'play' in the timing set. This setup should work great, have all the same capabilities and be a simple 'replace the stock opti, connect this to the stock LS1 harness' kind of setup... No custom machined parts, no new parts for non-compatible years, and low-and behold, if you want to go back to the LT1 PCM setup (which also implies the harness) you just pull this one off and put the stock opti setup back on...

Now I am not saying the S10Wildside parts are bad, just that it is a complex mechanical solution without a complete PCM solution. No different than this in that regard, except for the sheer number of parts and work required to put his system on... Anyone can see that putting a 'different' opti-unit on is much simpler than all the BS required, that is all...

I didnt read the whole thread so I dont know if it was mentioned, but I did see something about the wheels being a pain in the *** to CNC.

What if they were cut on a waterjet? I can acheive a ten thousandths precision cut.

I've only browsed this thread so I'm not sure if this has been answered, but is AKAFred getting both crank and cam signals from the opti?

You can also put me down on a list to send an opti to be modified when its available. I have a spare one in the box brand new.

Would you be willing to do the harness's also? Like if I send you everything in a box can you re-pin it and modify the opti and send it back?

This is nice I was about to buy EFI live to tune my truck.
