Installing an aftermarket A4 shifter

Anyone here ditch the stock shifter and e-brake assembly and install an aftermarket shifter for their A4? I have a 700R4 in my 93 but I am having trouble finding my answers on what I can remove without screwing up the car (i.e. keeping it from starting). I know you have to engage the key and brake to put to shift it. Also there is a 2"x2"x2" box behind the shifter mounted on the floor. What is it? Just need some guidance here fellas.

The car will be mostly strip with about a mile a day driving at the most.

I am running a Pro-Stick shifter with the A4 plate/gate on this 4l60E. you just replace the stock attachment on the side of the trans with the one supplied with the shifter and adjust it just like you would normally. works great without a console but with that reverse lockout I will have to raise it some so I can put the console in and reach the reverse "latch".

Cool, thanks Shon! That is the shifter I was looking at running. I want to put in the carpet from Speed, Inc. and then add this for a cleaner look as well.

Do you know what the little "box" mounted behind the shifter is? That one is confusing the hell out of me. I wont be running a console so I want it gone if I can get away with it.

i think that it has something to do with the airbag system

is that box yellow? believe that is the AIR Bag sensor, mine is not there and I removed alot fo the wiring....

yes it is yellow....If I unplug it and hide the wires under the carpet, the bag won't go off or anything will it??? lol lol

btw, the steerign wheel is being replaced and the air bag removed since the wheel is absolutely falling apart. I want to put a nice grant wheel on it when taxes get here.
