how long did it take you to drop the motor and tranny start to finish? You didnt need any special tools did you? Thinking of doing this this spring.

You have the engine, tranny, wire harness & computer ready to roll out from under the car in a matter of a few hours. Some tools to have handy would be a cherry picker to lift the body off of the motor, a heavy duty dolly to set the engine and transmission on to roll out of the bottom, some 7-ton or larger jack stands to keep the body up while you move the cherry picker out of the way. Other than that, all you need is basic hand tools. Get yourself a detailed write-up and you'll be fine.

so is it easier to drop it with the t-56? I know some people do it and leave the tranny in the car.

Yes. I have done it twice and I don't know how I would have dropped the motor and left the tranny still in place.

I'v never done this before and it took me about 6 hours. If I can do it all by myself anybody can do it. I just went to lowes and got a couple 1000lb. furnature dollies and 5 2x4's. The only special tools you need are the custome stands (inmy pics on the first page), jack stands, and a cherry picker. It was a blast and I cant wait to get ti all back tougether. And yes, clean it up while your at it, youll be happy you did.

I'd be way too frightened of tipping that forklift to ever try that.

If my valves look good i might do a cam too But probubly not haha. Anything else I should do for cheap? What kind of numbers do you think i will see with the things i am doing? It's a 1993 trans am with the t-56.
True duals do not cost that much if they are dumped. 180~ for the mufflers (unless you go bullets which are cheap I think) than pay the muffler guy. If you want an X pipe than thats more money of course.

normally i thought the same thing but apparently the forklift is designed to lift about 6 tons, so considering our cars weigh less than 2, we should be okay.

Well I FINALLY got to put the engine in last night. Went form the engine on the stand and the tranny on a dolly, to the engine and tranny in the car in 6 hours with the help of my 16 year old bro.

I dident get to do squat to the engine except fot the lt's, injectors, water pump, alternator, pan gasket, intake gasket, oil cooler removal, tb rebuild with slp airfoil, timing set, front cover gasket, poly engine and tranny mounts, shifter seal, tranny output seal, tune by madz28, ls1 steering column, new fans and fan frame, msd opti rebuild, msd sc wires, ngk tr6 plugs, and rear main seal. I also got those wheels for 200 bucks haha. And tires for 418. they look so much better than the 16x8's

Really wanted to do a cam but work has slowed down way too much. Side automotive jobs are how im staying afloat right now and my dad and I might start a shop because of the buisness we have coming in. (thats why i havent been able to work on my own car lol)

So I am looking forward to seeing how much power i picked up, and having a car that doesent leak and can start without smelling like a gas fire lol. But I guess its for the best that i couldent do many mods right now, i need it to last while i go to school (im 21) and really dont wanna drive my 1994 jimmy with 32" mtr's evrywhere because it sounds like a semi and needs gears to get out of it's own way.

Do you guys think the mods i did will be really noticable?

Just an update...I got the motor in and running, started it with open headers. All i have left is for the thermostat and o2 extensions to get here. It sounds awsome and seems to rev alot faster. I so freaking happy, it's my first project and it went together fine, and even started right away!

Oh i had a question though. My ac lines hit the headers! Does this happen to any of you guys? I ended up just removing all the ac stuff, I need a new pump anyway. If i can find the right line ill get a new pump, otherwise i wont worry. I sent the girlfriend packing so i dont need ac anymore anyway lol.

I only skimmed and didn't notice anyone mention it, but I thought the 93s didn't come with the T56, but with 2 other transmissions?
