These oil threads are depressing, no matter how many times the FEW of us try and present actual info the fact is most of you think marketing BS is meaningful data.

BITOG is a great resource.

Oil quality is not even the big issue, suitability for the application is the ticket, have seen one popular LT1 oil put up nothing but mediocre results for the LT1 but put it in a 1.8t VW and the results are awesome. Doesn't make it a great or bad oil, just makes it a great choice for the VW and a not so great choice for the LT1.

Wear metal content in used oil in the intended application is pretty much the only useful test. The rest is smoke and mirrors.

I meant 10w40, but thanks for the link, I need more info on oils, as I'm not sure what to run, just that it needs to be thicker than stock with my motor upgrades.

FastFboy, my factual Data proves otherwise. I run 0w30 GC to 3K in my 174K engine because after 3K it gets filled with wear metals, that I don't wish to be continually circulated through the engine. Just as Dwayne said and I said, no one oil is perfect for every app. I found Mobil Clean 5000, to do an excellent job in my wife's cavalier. When it's on sale, I can get it for $9.99 for five quarts (4 qt sump) and a filter.

Even reading amsoils site they will tell you that you can't just take their oil to 25K in any car or in any condition.
