I did the same thing when I pulled mine. Dropping the cross member and tilting it back makes those top bolts easy to get with a long extension.

OP, be careful lifting the car that high on dirt. The jack stands tend to start sinking and fall over. That would be a bad way to go out!

i do have some 2x2 4 inch thick concrete pads i use under the stands.

also what do yall "mean tilting it back"?

Deffently becareful. on mine I have, 1foot x1foot x 3foot soild wood that has steel bands wraped around them just incase they split.
I also used them on my back tires to raise the car high enough to get my motor out when I rebuilt her.

when yall say tilt it back. are you talking about undoing the trans cross member and letting the tailshaft flex toward the ground using the motor mounts as a pivot?

just never heard this term before

Exactly. Go get yourself some junk 10 inch wide rims and put them under each 4 wheels. Best jack stands ever! Thats what I use I like to be very safe when im under the car.
