Default Ram air conversion

I want to convert my cold air intake into a ram air intake. What would be the most efficient and cost effective way to do this?

And I'm also wondering how efficient a ram air setup would be without a functional hood. It isn't absolutely necessary, is it?

There is no significant performance difference in switching from CAI to ram-air. You cannot use the factory ram-air box without the hood because the ram air hood has an insert that the filter fits into and seals against.

It is more of an aesthetic mod than anything else. Figure the cost of the hood, airbox, and paint, and you're looking around $1000 at least.

If you willing to cut up your car a LS lid and FTRA/SSRA setup would be worth 15hp. You would need to make sure its sealed to get the 15 hp. It has to be getting fresh air.

This is the only cost effective way to go really. A hood and LT ram air setup is around 1000. Which could also get you a set of decent heads or a cam a valvetrain setup. I wonder which would be better?

When I bought my car it had the hood but didnt have the airbox. I spent about $220 including a new air filter and new clamps.

This is the top cover you need.
http://www.slponline.com/view_product.asp?P=200830005 $85

But the website that sold the bottom part apparently no longer sells them. I can't find it anywhere now..

OR go with a Suncoast kit: http://www.suncoastramairhoods.com/e...?productID=419 $345

Curious what the ftra/ssra setup is, as I already have the suncoast ram air hood.

My brother bought an OEM ram air hood and airbox for $350 on craigslist.

He wrecked my bike so I got it.
