Metal intake elbow?
Okay so my 94 has a metal intake elbow, not sure of the brand, it does has the full lenght divider running vertically through the middle of it. The thing gets hot as hell and i have heard that this warms the air going into the intake which can hurt performance and it can throw off the IAT readings. I can see the iat readings thing, but wouldn't the air be moving so fast through the elbow that it wouldn't really have time to get heated up? Im thinking about replacin it one because im thinking of tapping my n2o line into the underside of the elbow as this is the only part of my n2o install that is visable, also some times it doesn't all like to go back together perfectly and i think the flexablity of the rubber elbow would help this out. Anyone have any thoughts on a rubber elbow vs. a metal one?

I really don't see heat soaking as an issue, considering the entire intake manifold is made of aluminum. The ease of installation and removal would make me stick to a rubber intake elbow though. You can get a 1LE elbow from WS6store (same as stock, without the ugly donkey dick) for something like $65.

The rubber 1LE one has worked for me, it is a little hard to get on the intake but I just use a flathead screwdriver to open the rubber. It always stays cool and it is black so that makes it absorb heat instead of steel or aluminum heating up.

mine is aluminum and it does get damn hot, i just dont know if that actually effects anything, i would think the airis moving to fast to get heated up, although i guess i could see it throwing off the IAT sensor. Is the ruber elbow really a PITA to take on and off, i know my aluminum one can definatly be a PITA with the K&N and itnever seems to really line up nicely

Sounds like the Vortec elbow and I would keep it on there. Tapping into the underside of the elbow for a nozzle should be easier with the metal and I always found it easier to get on and off and it never rips. The IAT readings will always be warmer than the actual air because of the placement of the sensor not the air. You can just relocate the sensor down just behind the air filter to help with that.

My elbow does get warm, but never enough to ever burn skin.

The only thing you have to look out for with the metal elbows is that some of them are actually smaller than a 58mm TB opening and can be a restriction...Im told that the Trick Flow one is large enough...I just stick with the 1LE and it works great and looks stock...

It is the trickflow, the outside of these gets good and warm, but the intake air charge is minimally affected. I had my trickflow (matte black finish) tapped when i bought it and it takes 5 minutes with anyone who's relatively knowledgeable with a drill and tap kit.
Oh yea, and the rubber elbows aren't more flexible or easier to get on...have worked with both. If you've having problems, just go to home depot or lowe's and replace the rubber sleeves that go on either side of the elbow.

i have the vortec elbow and moroso CAI i bought off a member here.
he had installed the IAT in the Moroso air intake tube.
moving it from the rubber elbow to the air intake tube, i felt a little bit of difference. so i kept it there when i put the vortec elbow on it.

the main difference other than appearance that i see between the 1LE and the trickflow is the trickflow is smooth on the inside and could not cause as much turbulence... would it make a difference at all... prolly not.. i have the trickflow and i like it.
