I agree with everyone else it def. has the unique factor, only thing I don't quite get is most high reving top end builds are best for light vehicles that see little of those rpms on the street. Unless that '55 has some major weight reduction and is mostly strip I would think this would be the opposite of what I would do. Don't get me wrong though its good to have something goes against the grain, breaks the monotony

I have wanted to do this since I read a long time ago about the 302 LS1 concept. It was supposed to be a tribute to the 69 Z28. That car they also revved to the moon. Couple things, I believe that solid lifter motors like rpms, any plans to convert to that? Also, this sounds like the PERFECT build to throw a GM 847 in since you will be turning os much rpm. Without a doubt, post that **** here!!

The original 302 Z28 wasn't very light

That's the only way it will make decent power. If the average LT1 350 heads/cam combo can make anywhere from 370 to 430whp at 6500rpm then it'll take significantly more to make the same amount of power, but will need to be rev'd much higher. How much does a Nomad weigh?

I am sure GIZMO knows this but might be interesting for the rest of you. The L99 used 5.94" rods, so you can use it's crank and rods with a stock LT1 piston and endup with a reasonable deck height.

This is what happened to the rotating assembly that came out of the original L99 in my car, gave it to a guy for the cost of shipping.
He got it running and all but he was after a mileage build for the street and the lack of torque gave him fits with keeping it in lockup.

That is exactly what I plan to do. I still have the original rotating assembly from my L99 Stock Eliminator motor (ran 7.80 in the 1/8 th @ 3300 lbs). As most of you probably know the 1955 Chevrolets could be had with a 265 ci small block. A common upgrade in the sixties was to build a 302 ci replacement motor. So, this is kind of a nostalga project. The car will be street driven, so we will be running a stock PCM that Ed Wright fixed for me years ago. I will be using a Howell harness that has also been sitting around. The heads will be a set of blueprinted 561's (from some of my Stock Eliminator experiments). Not much else has been decided yet.

Let me tell you, my buddies 69 Z28 with the 302 ran 12.2's on street tires smoking the hell out of them, all that was changed from the factory motor was he ran a single plain intake, 750 double pumper, and we put a cam in the 244 duration range. 12's back in the day was a very quick street car...with slicks, 11's was there..........

It wan't a concept...I think ?Westech built it and it was on the '01 Power tour...it made right around 380rwhp and rev'd to somewhere like 7600-7700. It was an LS motor...There are pics of it around....pewter with"302" badges on the finder. Cool car for sure.

No it sure wasn't. The reason Gm made the 302 was b/c there was a 5.0 liter max displacement requirement for the trans am racing back in the 60's.

I mean't no offense I think this build should be pretty neat, and now given the history of the vehicle with commonly replaced 302's in them I fully understand the nostalgia aspect

Definitely love the DZ302's...and to see someone give a try at recreating one in fuel injected form sounds wicked.

I hope you build a stout valvetrain lol. Jesel is a good company. I always wanted to hear a high revving lt1. Good luck!

This is probably still a month or so out. The kids stock internal car is almost finished. I have to get it and my Formula ready for Rockingham in a few weeks. That, and work too!!

I will start a new thread when everything goes out to the machine shop.
