302 Cubic Inch LT1
I built a "302" Vortec, actually a 306 about 15 years ago. Started with a Vortec 350 880 block that had spun a rod bearing. Used a L99 crank and rods. 0.030" over flat top pistons. Balanced them. Zero decked the block. Angle milled the 906 vortecs to 59cc. Used screw in-studs and guide plates. 2.02/1.60 valves. Comp XR282 cam. 1.6 shaft mount roller rockers. A performer rpm dual plane intake and a 750 cfm vacuum secondary quick fuel carb. Used a HEI distributor that I removed the module from and wired to trigger a MSD 6AL box. 1 3/4" primary headers and dual 2.5" exhaust with a X-pipe. Used a LT1 T56 behind it. Went into a 1983 Malibu with a 4.56 rear gear. I put a 7,500 rpm pill in the MSD box. It drove nice, had great manners with the 6 spd and really got with it above 3,500 rpm. It also a serpentine setup from a 92 camaro on it and would sit in traffic with the a/c blasting at 850 rpm all day long. I used a cheap underdrive crank pulley. F-car dual fans bolted right onto the radiator. That car would still get 25 mpg cruising at 70 mph @ 2,000 rpm with the a/c blasting. If I had not sold the car to a friend that badly wanted it, the car would have been TBI swapped.
