If you ask for the temperature sensor at the auto parts store, they'll give you the one that goes in the water pump. If you want the one in the head, ask for a temperature switch. Nice car for 4 grand!

The "switch" in the picture, which is actually a sensor is located on the passenger side cylinder head. It controls the analog gauge. If you disconnect it and ground the green terminal, your gauge should move all the way to the right(hot). If it doesn't move, you need to check for an open in the green wire or your instrument cluster is not operating properly.

It got to to upper 30s today and it took it out for a bit. I must say this thing drives pretty kick ***. Very tight and responsive! I pulled the valve covers and all looked good. I oiled every thing up since its been sitting for months while i was in there and it runs perfect. Handles great! It doesnt have that in your face power f-bodys do, but a smoother all the sudden your going fast type of car.

Now, I'm not 100% sure on this, as I don't know how it works mechanically, but I believe it's a sender and not a sensor. But that's going off the definition of each term as a sender sends pulses and a sensor sends information to a measuring device or control unit (like the PCM/ECM)

AC, does your Vette have the 3 setting ride control?

If you wanna get technical, it's a negative coefficient thermistor. So what the **** does that make it?

Confusing!

I hope you didn't take offense to what I said though, as it wasn't meant as a "No, sorry, you're wrong" post. It's just that asking for a Temp Switch or Sensor will 90% of the time result in no part or the wrong part. Since the Temp Sensor will always come up with the one in the water pump.

You're right about being confusing. I went to three auto parts stores asking for the temperature sensor in the right head and kept getting told that there isn't one there, holding the broken one in my hand. Finally, they looked up switch and got the part I needed. It's called a temperature sensor in my Factory Service Manual as far as I can tell. Anyway, he got his car fixed and that's what the forum is all about. It's all good!
