I've been in that same situation of feeling guilty before. You just have to be clever about it hehehe.
They weigh less

There is no advantage to installing shorties, sorry if that offends any of you shorty girls.

Every car is different, my longtubes would not go in from top, no way.

Not the car, the lt1. I have shorties, granted I made them with minimal knowledge of header design. 17 rwhp and 17 lb.tq. dyno proven. That was over the 2 1/2 " ramshorn I ran. I have yet seen anyone post a true dyno gain from long tubes vs mids vs shorties. 3900# bolt-on 12.86 with shorties.

Trust me, you'll either...
A) Live happy unbeknowst to the gains you could be having with LT's.
B) Regret it and live with the minimal gains provided by the shoties.
C) Swap to LT's in the future and kick yourself for not doing it earlier.

I have the mac mid-lengths also.. I love em.. For a little added durability and protection, I took the headers and Y-Pipe to Performance Coating Specialties in Arlington, Texas. They ceramic coated them and I couldn't be any happier with the end results. Long tubes are nice but after 3 seperate friends in 3 different f bodies (1 trans am, 2 camaros) all damaged their long tubes from hitting those big "city t*tties" in the roadway, I decided to take a 5hp loss and go with mid-length headers. Glad I did!

I had the same headers you're putting on your car, when I bought mine. I hated those things. Plug access is horrible with them. You should've asked for a gift receipt, so you could return them for the ungodly amount they cost. lol. They're like $500 for the headers and y-pipe. You could get some pacesetter LT's and an x-pipe fabbed up for cheaper than that.

These are the LPP (LaMonte Performance Parts) headers. The newer design is coming out here soon. Great header for the buck!
