Default !cat = poop

Honeycomb inside the cat had worked loose and was breaking up and rattling in there so I had it replaced with an ORP. The car is now loud as hell and worse, raspy on deceleration . Doesn't help much either that the right side tail pipe is basically free flow since the single in/out flowmaster needed a slight modification to work with dual tailpipes. Now I'm thinking about getting a high-flow cat reinstalled ASAP. Anyone else regret going catless?

No cats with my x-pipe and magnaflow TDs is not raspy at all.

Just live with it. If not, just pick up some high flow cats and weld them inside the y-pipe.

Your car is most likely not tuned at all. The raspiness will go down A LOT after you get the car tuned (leaned out). It won't cure it totally, but it will sound better.

I think maybe it is your choice of muffler that is making it sound so raspy. My SLP LM1 sounded like that. It got ditched promptly. Now with an X-pipe and bullets it sounds good and has no rasp or crackle on deceleration. It used to sound like a redneck farm truck. Good luck.

any aftermarket exhaust on a stock tune lt1 will always be "poppy" and "raspy" especially with stock manifolds

I went catless for a little while then got tired of the smell and sound so I went with magnaflow cats. That was all before my H/c swap and now I couldnt imagine how loud it'd be without cats lol. Oh and this is through my magnaflow catback.

if your car is a daily driver you probably want cats, also unless you have deleted your 02 sensors you need cats. your 02 sensors need to get up to around 600 degrees so your computer will enter closed loop, this wont always happen with ORY pipes and while you think your gaining performance you really are just losing a little along with some gas mileage, not to mention if you have emissions checks you will fail miserably

Throw in a cherry bomb in it's place or a 3 to 3.5" Magnaflow race muffler (bullet). It'll work like a resonator and cut down on that rasp and pops. Best use bigger than what you have for exhaust though or else with the added back pressure of it, it'll do it job as a glasspack/muffler and alter the sound even more. Mind you, it wouldn't be raspy, but it could make it sound either too quiet or not as nice of tone as before. That's the ONLY thing keeping me from LTs or removing my cat.

I love the way my car sounds without cats and a flowmaster. . it only pops a little on deceleration and sounds waaay meaner than before. Actually I wouldn't mind if it was a little louder, but that's just me

Catless on a stock or bolt-on car does tend to be a bit raspy, expecially with stock manifolds or shorties.
Running a high-flow cat is the best option IMHO, and it's what I've done on two of my firebirds.

Flowmasters and Magnaflows come alive on the LT1 with no cats.
