Question Cam rev range CC306

The comp cams website says that the CC306 cam rev range is from 1800-5800 rpm why then does everyone say that you have to "rev the **** outta it" to make power? what am I missing? I have heard some suggest revving past 6500-6700 rpms, What gives?

6500-6700, stock shortblock wont live long at those rpm's. You can shift it at 6000 but there are smaller cams out there that will make better power at those rpms.

with my engine my rev limit set at 6800 but I'm scared to shift that high so I shift at 6300 but it feels like the engine doesn't start pulling hard til 3500rpms

What do you ET if you don't mind me asking? I don't see a problem shifting at 6700rpm with your built bottom end.

Since your engine is forged, you wont have any problems spinning that thing to 6700 easy!

depends on heads used and cubic inches honestly as far as how high to rev it

many people believe cc306 and gm847 need to be revved to the moon but on stock heads they seem to stop making power around 5800rpm

maybe thats where they got their claim(comp)

All I can tell is that this thing pulls like a freight train anywhere above 3500 RPMs. I cant wait to get it dyno tuned.

I disagree. On my stock headed car with a CC306, it starts pulling hard around 3k and when I shift usually around 6400 it is still pulling hard. I would spin it further but I still have a stock bottom end, including rod bolts so I am afraid to blow her sky high.

6700 or 6800 with a cc306...ive had many lt1 crs and ive spun some bearings...most common problem i have found is starvation...i always run 6 qts and a truck filter..if you watch most every lt1 with 5 qts in first gear sometimes in second the oil pressure will drop from being pushed back in the pan or just plain sucking the pan dry...ive beat the **** outa some stock bottom ends

Thats just cheap insurance< I am running about 5.5-5.75 quarts with a truck filter so I am not worried about oil starvation, the filter is twice the size of the stock one.

Hmm, maybe I should start running 6 quarts. What part # oil filter do you run?

My engine builder used a NAPA gold 1061, I havn't decided if I am going to go with a diff brand yet but I will not get a smaller size. for instance compared to the Fram filter for our cars it is twice as tall.

If a cam like the 306 stops pulling before 6000rpms then there is a problem, be it tuning or valvetrain.

My best guess on the Comp rpm range problem is they are giving ranges based on Gen 1 data, not considering what our ultra short intake runners do to the powerband.
