Thats pretty much why I brought it up. I dont know if its something that requires major work or if it could be heated and beaten flat with a hammer.

The whole point is to get some more leg room. I'm not a passenger often in the camaro but, the wife likes to drive it sometimes AND I've taken it on road trips before where I need a break.... I'm 6'2" and wouldn't mind a bit more room.

The search feature is acting a little funny right now, but there is a thread someone did out there. It covers everything that needs to be done. The trans crossmember needs to be modified.

EDIT: I win https://ls1tech.com/forums/appearanc...mp-delete.html

Thanks for that link man. That pretty much confirms what I was thinking - that it requires a bit of work, not just some hammering. Alot of people dont care about it though. hehe... Oh well, I'm still interested in this... Just not something I'll do right away.

seems like it would take a good deal of work and effort to accomplish little to nothing

the hump stayed there from 3rd to 4th gen because, it would have cost GM ALOT of money to change the design and ten start crash testing vehicles for validation.

i wish it was gone as well! lol!!!

I'm still curious as to the reason for wanting it gone, as it doesn't affect anyone's legroom especially yours lol I mean c'mon the only one to gain from it is Beaflag when he removes his passenger seat to haul engines around

EDIT: OK I saw the bit where you said you ride shotgun from time to time, and I've rode shotgun in my 91 and 93 before and I'm 6', my legs aren't up at my chest to sit on the hump. They're down at the firewall stretched out away from the hump... GM wouldn't have put it where it affects extended legs. You'll find that all you've achieved is a visual mod.

As odd as it may sound it actually helps out when you are moving engines around. It helps keep the engine from rolling around. I always set the front flat part of the oil pan on the hump. If there's not an oil pan on it can be a pain. I plan on cutting it out of my 93. It should drop a couple pounds.

haha Nice

Though if you cut it out, you have to put something back in its place. Assuming you don't use sheet metal, I can't see there being much weight to be shed, even with using sheet metal for that matter.

We pick it up and drop it in there. There's usually a lot of luck involved. So far though I've moved 2 LT1 engines, LQ9 iron block, 2 LS1 short blocks, in my 95 and nothing has gone wrong. Some of them have been moved multiple times. I've also moved two automatic transmissions in the same car. It's typically interesting and I drive very carefully.

^Haha. They like to roll. I've taken a few turns too quickly and thought it was going to eject out of my door. I locked up my brakes once with a trans in the back on the flat area behind the rear seats. I thought it was going to take my head off, but it only hopped up over part of the seat and got wedged against the glass.

If you have ever seen under an 4th gen you can clearly tell it is for the cat.
