Default Passenger Floor Hump Removal

Has anyone ever attempted to get rid of the passenger side floor hump? Is it impossible to do? I haven't seen under my carpet for a long time so, I cant remember if there is anything major in the way that would keep someone from just beating it flat with a BFH.... Any thoughts, facts, or photos from anyone that has also pondered this?

its prob there for a reason, if they would have noticed there was no point of having that hump there they would have not put them on the newer years. so for example the 93LT1;s there OBI with a 4L60 transmission, and the 94+came 4l60e and 95+came 4l60e and OBII..the 93s where pretty much test mules....so the hump must be there for a reason. if not they would have made the cars different with no hump

I believe it is only for the catalytic converter to fit under the car nicely in a stock exhaust setup. I dont have this and I'm sure many others dont either so, there's no reason for the hump in that case. I've thought about it a few times but, was wondeing if anyone has modified this already or nobody else cares about it.

if u bang the hump in straight most likely ur carpet will still have the form of the hump and will be still annoying...

carpet is not a concern. It can easily be heated and pressed down. If that didn't work, a screw or two would fix it. I've been a passenger enough times in these cars to wish it wasn't there. Oh well,...

You said "bang" and "hump"

As others said, you might have issues with carpet if you hammer it out. If that's not a problem then go ahead and do it. take before and after pics

it has been done and posted about on LS1tech. Try searching the Paint & Body forum, Appearance, and maybe Drag racing. there's a post somewhere here that had good pics of the process.

The trans crossmember has to be modified as well as the part of the formed "framing" it bolts to on the passenger side.. it all occurs on the underside of that hump. Other than that it is pretty much straight forward. The stock carpet will even sit down nice going by the pics that were posted.

Seems like an awful lot of work to eliminate one of the defining characteristics of an f-body, whether annoying or not.

Long live the hump!

The lack of leg room on the passenger side pisses me off way more than the hump.

So true! I think my 91's (all 3rds?) hump was even worse than the 4th gens! I was kinda surprised to see it making a repeat appearance in the 4th gens, but like you said it's a very defining feature.

Passenger Side Hump is to F-Body
as
*** Inches From The Ground is to Corvette

I say leave the bitch, you're in the drive seat anyways, so who cares Passengers should be more worried about the lack of things to hold onto for dear life than a hump in the floor that is under their knees and doesn't affect their legroom any unless they're a Mini-Me sized midget.

You could always add more height to the rest of the carpet so that it is flat and nobody notices... I don't think it is really worth the effort in my opinion. Maybe you should change your driving style so that the passenger isn't worrying about a bump in the carpet
