A guy I'm doing is only charging $150 for labor for install. He specializes in F-body installs... but yeah thats WAY too steep. Save up for a Strange S60 Dana or Moser 9"

That option probably isn't for everyone.

IMO, like Rich said, that's an awful lot of work for 5 rwhp. But hey, if you're willing to sink that much more into a built 10-bolt (which still isn't anywhere near as strong as a 12-bolt, S60, or 9"), have at it!

Interesting reading though.

yea and for 750-800$ like he said thats a pretty decent deal if you ask me, cause you are saving some weight from one of the larger rear-ends and less absorpution if im understanding his thread correctly.

Didn't car eto read the whole thread, but here is some input...

Why even buy a 12-bolt?

Go straight to a Strange S60 (Dana60)... beefiest of all of them, less driveline loss than a 12-bolt or 9-inch and you can keep ABS and everything else...

Have one myself and can't really see any other option, especially considering that they are almost cheaper than a Strange 12-bolt.

So you seriously think an S60 is stronger than a 9"?

hmmm...

Dont get me wrong, I love the S60 option, but it's not on par with a 9" for the 600-700+ hp crowd, IMO.

Oh, and you can do that 10-bolt build, or most of it really on the cheap if you want to.

Of course I wouldn't sink 12-1500+ into a 10 bolt, because for a little more you can have an S60.

But for those looking to make their 10 bolt last on a budget, I dont see it being a bad option.

Although I have not ran it like that yet, I'm fully prepared to put my money where my mouth is.

My car will probably run 12's for the next couple years, maybe squeak down into the 11's but I dont see going beyond that, so if it works for me at that level, we're gtg.

Because you still don't solve the problem of the small ring gear. S60s, 9"s, and 12-bolts all have one thing in common - they all have MUCH larger ring gears. This puts less stress and lateral deflection on the gear face. The 10-bolt's ability to withstand torque is limited because of this. You can weld the axle tubes, run a different posi, run a rear stud girdle, and do a Mexican rain dance to keep your 10-bolt alive, but in the end, you're still going to end up with a typical 7.5" setup.

If you're happy with your 10-bolt and you like to take chances, then go for it!

I, for one, have taken too many chances with 10-bolts and have broken too many (this includes welded axle tubes, Auburn diff, and thicker gears). I won't be going down that route again, which is now why a 9" resides between my quarter panels.

JMHO...

Umm, I believe you are completly wrong on that one...

I do believe you can spend $8000+ on a fabbed 9" that wll take over 2000hp, but we are talking rears for the f-body...

A S60 will be STRONGER than a comparibly priced 9"... the ring gear and pinion on a S60 is BIGGER than a 9"...
