Default 95 vette cam only

First off, i tried searching already, but didnt find enough info.

My buddy has a 95 vette with a low mileage, stock motor. He has a few little things on it.
Muffler deletes
160 thermostat
SLP intake
tb airfoil crappy thing

He wants to go cam only on the car. No stall, gears, nitrous, or heads.

he has the performance gear ratio for the A4, I think 3.07 or something.

His car seems to be a very low 13 second car. He's looking for something that will not be too choppy, and have good power up to redline. Hoping to get his car around mid 12's. He's on somewhat of a budget so he doesnt want to do the LE1 or anything now. We were looking at maybe the CC503 w/ 1.6rr maybe?

Thanks guys,

Devon

Either way he's going to have to get bigger springs and I'd recomment RRs and pushrods with the cam. I'd recommend doing some sort of stall or what not but I guess it's not 100% necessary, just recommended again...lol. He's looking at ~$600 if he does it himself I'd think.

he's got about 1500 to spend, so hoping to get parts for like 750. He is looking at cam, springs, and roller rockers now. I dont think he wants a stall at all. Not a track car. he likes top end more than off the line.

The CC503 is a very stout and proven performer. More aggressive than the LT4 hotcam, but not as wild as say the 306 or 847. Definitely one of the best all-around performers on stock heads. Does your buddy have headers as well? Headers aren't a necessity on a cammed car, but you're better off.

CC503 cam 300
Comp ProMags 290
Patriot Spring kit 250
ARP head studs 38
TF guideplates 16
TF chromemoly pr's 87

Total: 981

That is with new parts. You can find used parts and save more money. Keep in mind that you have to buy intake manifold gaskets, timing cover gasket set, valve seals, and fluids. A mail order tune from MadTuner is 150. Will all said above, you can still get everything for under 1500. Also keep in mind, that the car might feel a little sluggish with stock manifolds, stock stall, and stock gears.

i think the gears are good to go. He pulled my lt1 M6 formula by several cars! It still chirps going into 2nd as well. its a very stout LT motor! He is definately getting it tuned here locally by the installer as well. It will dyno tuned as well by same guy. i havent seen much in terms of headers for the lt1 vettes. He doesnt want to lose clearance. We have ZERO emmisions here, so how much to LT headers go for? That would kill his budget I'm guessing.

He needs to get some headers & gears. The 3.07s are not much better than the standard 2.59s. I did a mild H/C (hotcam) setup on my old 92 A4 with 2.59s. It ran high 12s @108ish before the gears. After some 3.73s, it picked up 6 mph!

You can find a cc503 a lot cheaper than 300.. New mine was 250 from summitt comp 1.6 promags 285 crane 10308-1 spring kit 160.00. And of course the gaskets and tune..
You will not need new pushrods with a low mileage motor as well as lifters

The cam is $266 from Summit.

I actually am using the Crane 10308 spring kit, but they are hard to find.

I would NEVER use stock pushrods with a CC503 cam and upgraded springs...

Stock lifters are fine.

I'm in the process of installing my new cam in my 95. The hot cam is pretty mild. I went with something that will make more power with a good bit of lope to it. Best bet is to tell your friend to go with a custom cam. He can then get exactly what he is looking for. Here's my cam build thread..

hmm.. This thread seems very familiar.

The L98 headers will work on an LT1 just fine but the air injection wont work without some fab work, and the stock cats will have to be replaced if he goes with any type of longtubes. I have a set of hooker 2151s on my 96 and I lost no ground clearance but I have no cats/egr/air injection etc.

Same here. I believe there may be a group purchase right now on the corvette forum.
