Yeah, I was being chased by a friend in his TA, I was on my 07 R1 (Power Commander, Gutted Y-Pipe, Two Brothers Exhaust) we were on a long *** strait away and I hit 183 and still had more. He told me he was pegged out almost and I was gaining major distance on him. So I would say around 160-65

I've got a M6 and 3.92 gears, and I've run out of gear (not power!) in 5th...

probably to save the engine. if there was no rev limiter people would blow their engines up trying to reach top speed

Cars that weren't equipped with z-rated tires had a speed limiter...don't remember exactly what it was. And just so you guys know, I read that technically all fbody's are speed limited...but it's set at 255mph, lol.

lower rear gear helps. why vipers come stock with a 3.08 gear and i am sure most vettes come with something similar. Then you need power...

what I mean is if hes been as fast as he claims then he changed his speed limiter, so why didn't he bump up his rev limiter a bit is what im asking..?

im pretty sure all fbod's came with speed limiters that depended on what tires the car came equipped with. mine came w/ zr's and the limiter was set to 145.

vettes used to come w/ 3.42's, not sure what they come w/ now..

I wonder if that is something they did for obdII because when i was on my stock tune i was able to exceed 145mph without bumping into a limiter and my car originally came with ZR rated tires as well

I've hit just a tad over 170 in my car tached out in 5th with 3.42's and 275/40/17 tires. Not bad for boltons. But thats the absolute most it could do. I just dont have enough power to keep pulling in 6th.

i was pretty much a victim of that. i had to get away from the local sheriff so i flat footed her and never looked back. 6600 rpms in 3rd gear with a set of 25.7" and 2.73's out back = 184 mph. i know our tachs arent exactly the most accurate but they are pretty darn close. so ill call it 175 for arguments sake. later that week my connecting rod bearings failed and scored the crank .060 and the cylinder walls .020 but she's a healthy 9.8 :1 355 right now.

how Many of you will end up as a pancake on the side of the road I wonder?
Ls1s with z rate tires a limited from the factory to 160mph so I would think lt1
with z rated tires would also be 160 or slightly lower

If where you running out of gear before power lower gears would help but most of use run out of power long before before gear so the highest gear you could use in 5th while not having to shift to 6th but still being drag limited would net you the highest top speed for that car

Also the viper uses a 3.08 because it has the trq to pull it

Thats funny cus a 89 firebird holds the stock bodied land speed record at 308mph Yes that means a 3rd gen firebird is more aerodynamic than a Veyron or any other car on the planet. And a 4th gen aint too far off, have faith in your f-body.
