most likely you ran out of power. the drag of the air get exponentially more at those speeds

ok so more power could equal higher speed. but wouldent i have to get more air in to the motor?

if you can turn 6500 in 5th gear that should be around 180. if you can do it in 6th. thats 270 haha

pretty sure the laws of physics would not allow an F-body to hit 270mph.

the veyron (1.5 million dollars) can barely hit 253mph ;]

according to top gear, the tires would wear bald in 12 minutes at those speeds, but thats okay because you'll run out of gas in 5 minutes ;]

I've had my tach @ 5700 in 5th and it was still pulling but I had to let off for a bend in the highway. 3.42 rear w/ 26" tires = 173mph but I figure my tach is probably off a bit so I just say 165+

I've burried the needle several times. I'd say I've been able to at least hit 160. The car definitely runs out of power before it runs out of gear. But anything over 150 is just well...stupid (yes I'm saying I'm stupid). If you haven't won the race by 120 (I think that's around the top of 4th), you've lost, that's all there is too it.

before my engine decided to give out i know ive reached 160. My only major mod was a CAI. I would say a lightly modded car could easily do 175

As stated, air resistance is exponential, not linear. You can't simply say I can do x miles per hour stock, so I should be able to do x miles per hour with a few mods. That increase of 15mph in top speed takes quite a bit of horsepower to pull off.

Look at the Veyron for example, they said it only takes a little under 300 horsepower to reach 150 mph. But it takes an additional 700+ horsepower to hit the extra 100 mph top speed of 253.

You'll go faster in 5th gear.

my 1993 easily buried the needle and it only had a cai. Now its getting lt's, a pcm tune, bigger injectors(no hp gain with those i dont think), and 17x9 ws6 wheels. It's an m6, not sure what gears. What do you think the top speed will be for me?
