Default Sleeper exhaust

Is there a Y pipe out there designed to run off the stock exhaust manifolds? Instead of going with headers, I'm thinking about installing a sleeper exhaust system.

Ok, well I found one made by SLP.

Anyone else have a custom setup off the manifolds?

I was going to mention looking to see if SLP made one. The one you posted is for a LS1. Other than that, you can have an exhaust shop make any y-pipe you want. The the thing that will make your exhaust a sleeper is how quiet it is. That will depend on your muffler(s).

That's weird... I did the search using my make/model.

If I get it custom made, won't an exhaust shop have to bend the pipe, crimping the inside, and reduce air flow?

Not if they have a mandrel pipe bender...

you cant really care much about airflow if you are going to keep the stock manifolds
just get a good header/ory/catback and do it right or leave it alone. otherwise you are just wasting money IMO

Thanks for your opinion, I guess? This thread isn't about headers. It's about going with a setup without them.

I cant imagine why in the world you wouldn't want headers but to each his own man. Do what you want.

Get a mandrel bent ORY pipe for stock manifolds, if they don't make one, get a custom one made. Use a quality cat back, less restriction as possible, i.e. not flowmaster. Also add a cutout before the axle.

http://www.macperformance.com/store/...ategory_ID=567

this is what I use and it flows great enough for a wheel to hang. You'll have to scroll down a bit. 5th item. No cut-out on this car

That won't fit a 96 will it?

As a side note, is your exhaust catted?

Yes it will, you will just have to connect that y-pipe to the rest of your exhaust at an exhaust shop.

My factory cat is gutted and welded on the end of the y-pipe. Then the TSP bolts on just like a normal system. For a quieter muffler I liked my old moroso spiral pros cat-back that I had made at one time. Mellow until you hammer it.

Still trying to pass visual? Technically you won't with that y-pipe that the other poster linked, that's for pre '96-'97 vehicles. But most smog shop guys are idiots and would only notice that you have a cat (even if it's only one instead of two) and pass you.

I have a '97 T/A and run the Stainless Works ORY and Borla Cat-back. The ORY bolts right up to My stock manifolds. I chose this so I can simply bolt up the catted Y pipe when its time for smog. takes about an hour to make the swap. I run the aluminized steel unit and it cost about $200 from summit. Dont forget a stainless band clamp to mate to the cat-back.

Haven't seen any CARB legal mids in a long time. But I agree with the first part of your statement.
